Morph was a minor star in Wickford for his jumping on the wick. Went to Hassells birthday party(with a lot of a class riders) eons ago. Spent some time watching hassell on his ramps in his back garden. Superstore car park flatland day ahh i remember it well. Endless days of no worries.

Post by: harris on July 11, 2010, 07:21 PM
morph ended up with dodgy cosworths a while back..hassels back garden 1/4 was sketchy smashed my chin on the neigbours wall
the bridge at the bottom of the big carpark in wickford was a place we used to jump but now its got that housing estate on it back in the 80s
we rode blue bell woods with dirt jumps until someone destroyed them.

There was a semi decent Halpipe in ashingdon(Hockley) i rode in the late eighties and did you ride the bowl(car park in Basildon) ? Is there any public concrete Skateparks in our area ?
Title: Re: Any old time riders in the Southend-Basildon area ?
Post by: harris on July 11, 2010, 08:20 PM
rode the car park all summer when savacenter was being built in about 1981
infact me and hassell walked a wheel barrow full of concrete all across basildon to make a smooth bit to ride the carpark curve
then realised we had no water ,so had to knock on a door in cherrydown to mix it up..   :idiot2:

i used to ride the bowl in dasildon, im guessing you mean the brick work one? was mainly at rom though.. slightly of topic but if you know the village called bulphan, inbetween orset and west horndon, they have just had a new track built, well sort of track  :LolLolLolLol:  cost £90.000 of councils money, the women who designed it even got an mbe or summin for it  :2funny: if you ever go and look you will relise why im laughing.

Why did they take the decent halfpipe away at Blackshots sports centre ? there was one at the old terry Marsh center in Pitsea ? Why do the councils put these things up then take them down ?

I dont know of any good halfpipes now in the area ?

Hi Fella.

Ive lived in Billericay since 1978..... Parents moved out of bethnel green to move to " the country " as did half the east end back in the day. I rode blue bell woods ( which is now queens park estate ) from about the time we moved there untill the end. The " mini rom " which was at the back of Mayflower school fields and of corse the  Rom. Got all me gear from Rad City and Halfords Basildon.

....er, so did I, sorry, but who are you? My name and phone number was on the gate of the Rochford ramp. Mark is around, not riding though. Unfortunately Lee passed away in 2000.

The Halfpipe was in a public feild with a waist high fence around it. It was next door to some sort of workshop, but that was the other side of the wall. Dont know John horn but there was about 6-7 blokes that had something to do with that ramp.  Harris where do you live now ?

Laindon has a little metal skatepark, Wickford as well.Basildon has one but allways seem to have a lot of deadbeats hanging around.  Still want a local hot spot guide to be made on here. Used to bump into Andy Ruffell in South Woodham. Andy ggod places to ride in Bury st Edmunds ?

These are fairly local to me (Kent) , there's a little vid of me last year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AcFHA1hVLI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AcFHA1hVLI)

but there are trails in Rayleigh, people are fairly precious about their trails though, they're a lot of hard work to keep running, so if you go to any trails, say hello to everyone, and offer to pick up a shovel.

Just keep me in mind and do it sooner rather than later or we may never do it. I get every other weekend off and this is my weekend on and Sundays is my day as my wife works on Saturdays. We could try for a dry run before Rom ? Meet at Billericay ramp park ? or go to the other new park behind Leigh on sea station-its concrete.
All the best and Dont i say dont forget your helmet or pads.

Just a quick heads-up for you;  the new concrete Leigh on Sea park is, well, crap....  I wouldn't bother if I were you.  Saffron Walden is modern and big but can be slippery so take care.

Jesus Rob, two ends of the spectrum there!

If you haven't ridden for years, although l-o-s is crap, go there, because you'll shit yourselves at Saffron

The day i had planned to go to Saffron Walden didnt go as planned, my new boiler was leaking so could not go far that day but did pop down in the car to Leigh on sea. Not a bad freebe park, could have some good lines to jump. The little bowl was a nice surprise, better than the usual crap metal ramp parks that sprang up everywhere. Hopefully next time ill take my bike but it will have to be on a school day so i dont show myself up in front of the youngens.

Hi . I live in Wickford and use to ride about the same time as your friends . In fact I lived in Belmont avenue and they lived in Belmont Close . We both knew a guy called Jamie Waller . I have been thinking of getting back into bmx but I am not working and going to take me ages to save up for the project I want to do . Custom bike frame and forks from the states . I am 39 now but will probably be 41 before I could get the bike lol . Hope you find your friends .

Without trying to sound too morbid.....

I've just lost 3 years riding basically after having difficulties recovering from knee surgery.  I'm 45 this year and only just beginning to feel a bit like my old self. 39 seems a loooong time ago...

Don't waste too much time chasing your dream bike - get something secondhand, cheap and cheerful and get riding before your old bones let you down, if you know what I mean.
