Title: dyeing grips(now with results!!)

what type of dyelon am i looking for??all i can see on gaybay is clothes or shoe dye???i know they dont do a specific ame grip dye  but i am stumped here,so which type am i after chaps   ???

Why would you want to dye Ame grips , they already do rounds and tris in every colour for under a tenner

sell the ones you've  got for a tenner and so on

if it's cams your doing I 'll shut my gob  :D  ;D

Besides I've some black tri's for sale if you want Mark  :D , cheaper than Rit dye ,postage , salt and gas  :angel:

cos i got a set of bubble fonts that are too off white for use so i want to do them black,thanks for all the help chaps,now to get me some dye  :daumenhoch:

I tried dying some Grey Cams but the dye wouldn't touch it  :-\ they just came out a slightly darker grey  :D  :-[
Also tried some white Super Softs too but they wouldn't take either  ???

as we speak they are on simmer,fingers crossed it looks like the dye is taking although thats a sauce pan fooked!! :LolLolLolLol:

and here we have it!!!!a mint set of bubble fonts,pretty good i think although i may give them another dunking some time to get them blacker than black,but ame rounds do dye fine,whoop whoop

yup im well happy with them.just compared them to another black set of ame rounds(came in black from new) i have and they are just as black so i think that is where  i will call it a day  :)

rit dye john,tbh i havent got a clue what shade, i just clicked on the link that hunterdubber gave me and bought them from there! :crazy2:

no salt needed with this dye,either that or i misread the instructions!!i think this dye has salt in the mix already,thats what it says on the packet(i hope) anyways i just filled the kettle right to max then boiled it,then stuck the boiled water into a medium size saucepan followed by the dye then the grips ,.then left to simmer on a really really low heat for 1hr and 15 mins,with occasionally topping the water back up from the kettle as when it evaporates from the pan the grips start poking out!!!after that i put them in cold water for a minute to seal in the dye,peice of cake!!!! the down side tho is ive now got one knackered saucepan,a stained sink,stained hands and worktops!!!!the grips cost me £3 from gaybay,the repairs to fixtures and fittings will be way more!! :LolLolLolLol:

i best get some more dye and try mine again then.
i tipped loads of salt in when i done mine and it never took at all.
i'll try your route then and see how they go.

make sure you use the same dye i did tho!! rit dye in black!!

lol will do.
i might give the grips a boil up on there own first too as mine seemed a bit hard.
might soften em up and dye take better.

seems very hit and miss..my first lot went perfect..then tried some for lee and they were having none of it...

they were a bit grubby though, so maybe they have to be clean/nos and the right compound...
