Title: S&M Ditchforks with mysterious crown race...
Post by: skidmark on July 15, 2010, 10:48 AM
Got these on a bike and can't work out what's going on with the crown on them ???
I've taken the crown off them and this is what's left :wtf:

There's some kind of second race that was visible on the bike because it sat below the other!

But it looks like(if I ever managed to get it off) there's two different diameter steps to fit 2 different crowns onto :wtf:

They're 1" threaded Ditchforks........gimme some ideas fellas!!!!

Cheers Glen...I could put a crown on there no problem, in fact I took one off!

It'd sit fine against that other crown thing. The steerer actually steps up a size just where that thingy is sat....so the race can sit on top of that...although it obviously looks a bit odd ???

I think I'll just try cutting it off but certainly there's something wierrrrd goin on!

Well the aparent second crown was just mushed steerer tube, someone has used the forks without a crown :idiot2:

I chisled off the overhanging metal and filed it smooth....unbelievable how it molded the steel like putty and made it look like a completely separate metal ring.

Anyway mystery solved :daumenhoch:

Never seen that before...
Having studied the picture for a while, I concluded that they had been interfered with by a MONG.
Good job to get 'em back usable without spending any £ or ruining them tho dude....  :4_17_5:
