Title: Cutting drop outs bigger 10-14m ?
Post by: monkeybat on July 17, 2010, 01:44 PM
Would there be a problem with me cutting out the drop outs to allow 14 m axles instead of the 10 ? Would it weaken that area at all ? Reason i will do it as i will have three sets of wheel all with 14 m axles and being the silly person i am, will love to swap around the look of my bike. The plate in that area is quite thick.
Cheers Steve.

Depending on the size of the dropouts it may well be okay - is there gonna be much material left after cutting?

I've a frame here that has guidelines on it for cutting out to 14mm   ;)

The frames a Haro revo but i just tried the 14m axle and it does go in but very tight i just need to do a bit of fileing. Cheers Guys.

I'd file some flats on the axles rather than touch the frame - just a touch off the threads where the wheel slides up the dropout would be sufficient.   :)
