Going to polish everything in sight
Anyone recommend a simple home resto kit for alloy and chrome parts or any other decent metal polish?
Used to be a bit of a Duraglit abuser as a kid  :LolLolLolLol:

I'm just getting back into all this and i'm halfway through a resto on an SR stem and my one tip for alloy is lots and lots of different grades of wet and dry and a nice flat surface and patience, lots of patience, couple of cans of stella help the process go smoothly!

Got a white pro neck stem but that is heading up north to N2Cus for a spring clean-not going to risk polishing the stamp off  ;)
Going to start on simple stuff like stripping brakes and buffing them up-be cool to see parts get a new lease of life instead of laying around in a pile of junk.

Is there a Machine Mart near you?  These drill mounted kits are sweet.

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/2178-hobby-polishing-set

The website is saying 'discontinued' but I saw them in my local branch quite recently so I don't know what's up with that.  Not bad for a smidge over a tenner and no need to send anymore gear to the soap-bar king.  :LolLolLolLol:

Neil was right about one thing though.  Peek is better than Autosol.  A bit late seeing as you've bought some.  :crazy2:

The white one off the bay this morning I was interested in it   :-[

Nice pick up if it is   :'(

 :LolLolLolLol:

The seller said it was bought painted so it only needs hit with stripper then a very very light polish and it will be like a new one with the machined finish if it's done right.    :daumenhoch:

Looks a minter under it's white coat....should polish up pretty easy.
If I strip the paint will it polish by hand.....with......wait for it................AUTOSOL?

Although that is exactly what you will get returned, one Pro Neck minus the stamp.

I reckoned so, if you want to keep the machined finish defo do it by hand lightly using autosol or maybe even brasso as it's not as abrasive.

Think autosol is a bit like marmite, you either love it or hate it....not that I go putting autosol on me toast.

It's good stuff but I get a reaction from it and makes me feel sick :buck2:

As an alternative I use astonish which is an oven type cleaner (found it in the mrs drawers lol!!.......the ones in the kitchen).

Cant believe you'd even think about sending Neil a stem to polish after looking at those levers

Remember the Hutch pro stem he made into a mini stem by over polishing it....  :D

I wouldnt trust him with a tin of mr sheen and a yellow duster!
