Title: *update* got my pk ripper on 20" 1 /3/8th " wheels full race see page 3
Post by: glenboy on August 15, 2010, 04:19 PM
i have some ukai rims 1 /38 and wondering if anybody else is using them on a full size bike not an expert or junior , i have a black loopy ripper f & F coming, but i just can't make my mind up whether it looks good on the narrower wheels or a bit (http://www.seriesoneturbo.co.uk/images/smilies/gay.gif) , found this on museum http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/se_racing/2336 (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/se_racing/2336)

NOW GOT THEM ON PK RIPPER SEE PAGE 3 http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=112864.msg1106448#msg1106448 (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=112864.msg1106448#msg1106448)

yeh they look good dave i like it , sort of sleek gives it the full race spec look, did they use these on full size bikes originally as well as the junior and expert ones

You really need to run 1 3/8th tyres on them, I think they look OK.  Fiola ran them at the 1985 KOS at Del Mar

Lots of people used them on full sized bikes back in the day, I even ran them on a ProCraft and that was huge  ;D

Th GT Brummie has posted looks like it has 1 1/8 tyres on it, but that could be a lack of air in them  :D

thanks yes i quite like the look of it and a bit different and it will also save me a few bob having to get some wheels , this is one of mine, it needs cleaning up but decent nick has 1 3/8ths tyre as well

thought i'd look up fiola on youtube and here he is on 1 3/8th wheels, they are obviously tough even though they don't look it

Noice, radial spoked, sealed hubs and blue and green label Comp 3's; yum yum  :daumenhoch:

They will look sweet on a Ripper  ;)

edit: thought i'd do a test fitting on my 90's pk and they look pretty good i think

We all used them back in the day, even Gary Llewelyn who was 6ft plus used them. Charlie Reynolds even used 24x1"3/8 on his VDC Gorilla cruiser at Wigan.

Araya 3/8's are wider and look a bit less 'kiddie' than Ukai's and obviously it has to be comp 3's.

Milton Keynes old downhill track, I guess it must have been 1983? That pic was in Dave Spurdens book of BMX, too funny.....

I'd guess at a Uni Seat  ;)

Mavic make and have always made top quality road gear, they look like Mavic 506 Hubs from a distance, I used to run them on my old Vitus Road bike back in the late 80's early 90's , full Mavic Groupset and ZAP electric gear change  ;)

Still got an exact Robinson Jersey like that but nothing else. An eagle eyed oldster might spot Skyway velcro on goggles in that pic, I got them off Andy Patterson at Bike 83 after waiting two hours and buying a crappy t shirt!

And yes, Uniseat, hammerhead with camo cali lite cover.

I'm going to fit my Curtis if it ever returns from the chromers lol with ukai 1 1/8 black with polished sides and some nos comp 3's from Alan. I love the skinny look makes the bikes look semi cruiser ish and really racey !

And I then get to use a sexy campag reab brake!

yes as above i really like the skinny wheels now on an old school racer as said it sort of makes the bike look bigger and a bit different to the norm  :daumenhoch:

Torker again, Bulwell

had them on my Steve Watson cruiser when i first got it too. Pic is Robby Hill (just in shot on the left), me in fila BJ and AGV pro shooter helmet and some strange Renthal like clamped bars?, Neil McKennernay 741. Anyone put a name to the No1 plate rider on a Curtis, the name Simon Fox comes to my mind but not sure why or who Simon Fox was really? year older than me so born in 1969, this is 1984, i was in 14's, Curtis rider would have been in 15's. I'm sure Gossa might know?

i'll move the seatclamp marty it was just fastly bolted together , whats the allen key size for the hutch stuff is it in imperial rather than metric as my allen key seems a bit baggy when in the bolt hole on the hutch stem and seat post clamp

As it's US I'm pretty sure that it's imperial.  The only reason it needs to go up higher is that too low and you risk stressing the frame around the seatpost split which could result in it cracking.

cheers mad dogg, i like it  :daumenhoch:
right here it is near finished but needs brake and i have some aluminium powerlite probend bars coming which should keep the weight down , just needs wheels cleaning and polishing, overall i'm happy with it and its turned out just as i thought and finally got the dx cranks, (excuse the pedals its all i had for now) on which had the euro bb so i had to get an adapter to convert to usa bb size which was a bit more complicated than i thought
