Title: MTBs in Cruiser racing?
Post by: HEYWOOD BMX on August 20, 2010, 06:17 PM
:) Anybody else been following Rooster`s thread over on BMXTALK?
http://www.bmxtalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30645

Some interesting views.I`m not that bothered about Regionals especially if it encourages new blood to BMX.I`d limit it to 1 season on an MTB though. Also a mention of introducing an MTB class but isn`t there enough events dedicated to MTB? Think I`m getting saltier in my old age :daumenhoch:

Grumpy old fookers  :LolLolLolLol:

Does it matter really?  more people on a gate, more money in the coffers...a good thing surely

It kills the spirit of BMX, single speed, no shocks. Ive watched MBs race in cruiser class, and they look like wrestlers auditioning for swan lake.
If it does encourage MBs into bmx then novice only, certainly not in expert class.

I think an MTB class wouldnt ruin things, the more people at races the better. It would benefit MTB'ers through the winter to keep there fitness and race practice if they are into 4x/slalom etc.

I don't give a monkeys as they are at a distinct disadvantage anyway.  I am surprised however that as Cruiser has got so competitive that no-one is running two or three gears on them to gain an advantage.....

it dont bother me that some race mtbs
the way i see it more riders the better
mtbs are slower and more difficult to ride through rhythm sections
put a fast guy on a bmx or a mtb they will be fast!

Hmmmm, like spd's and lycra skinsuits then, oh and MTB derived DXR cranks, Q/R seatpost clamps, carbon seatposts from roadbikes.

Need I go on?

BMX's had shocks in 70's.  Some Cruisers were 26".  Also some BMX's experimented with gears (Browning etc, etc)

I dont see a problem with it!!   BMX racing in the UK isn't rich enough to turn away anyone.

They pay their money, so let them race.

Rooster was probably having a whinge because he came last in every race and the commentator took the piss out of him in every race!!

If you want to be fair then do separate classes of MTB and Cruisers.

If you have full gate of MTB then they can have their own gate.  If not lump them in with the Cruisers and then split the result out afterwards.

Everyone's happy!!  :daumenhoch:

MTB's in Cruiser?  Yeah, the more riders the better!

Mid School bikes in Old School? Yeah, the more riders the better!

Yes at regional level and below.  No at national/Brits level and above.

If enough turn up to nationals, give em their own class.  But it'll sound a bit stupid - BMX Mountain Bike class.
