I'm off too centreparcs soon and wanted a cheap project bike. JJ answered my call with a £60 F&F deal. The only other thing I have bought to finish this was the wheels from a member at my race club. All the other bits have been sourced from my shed and cupboard of bits.

Not something that I'm going to keep on there. But an idea I have been toying with. I bought the AOD flask and was trying to find a way to fit it to a frame without causing any damage.Came across the Ahearn spaceman flask holder and bought one only to find that the AOD flask is too small. Anyway bought a flask for a quid at a boot sale that fitted and that's where it stopped.
Went into a Decathlon shop today and found a rubber strap on  bottle cage mount for £3.
Think it would be perfect for the MK lake ride.

Fitted the Solid headset and the forks, Starting to feel the love for the clear on the forks, Now there are some more parts alongside.
The Solid headset is the nuts, Needle bearings top and bottom. Only need to sort some cranks out now and then should have everything.
Going to build up a set of 48h Primo wheels aswell. All the chrome rims seem to be shot, So am going to polish the shit out of black one after a caustic bath.
There is one hurdle that I am having problems with and that is the hollow top cap, I dont have one. Looks like it is a 1/2 inch thread size. I bought a 1/2 13 Tap at a boot sale and that doesn't fit. M12 bolts dont fit "help"
Flask now removed :D

Looking great man! Does bathing the rim in caustic soda strip the chrome off the ali?

Looking great man! Does bathing the rim in caustic soda strip the chrome off the ali?
Not as far as I am aware, To strip chrome you need to use dangerous chemicals and are best off taking to a chrome platers to have done. Unless it is chrome on plastic models then normal bleach will do the job.
In my search for a chrome rim, I have found either NOS expensive ones or bubbling/flaking ones. Nothing inbetween.
At the moment I have a used black rim that has a few marks on it, This is the one that I will remove the anno from using Caustic soda and then wet/dry marks out and then polish to a good finish, Will use for riding on the rear. In the process of buying a NOS black rim which I will use as the front.
-
Cheers bud, yeah ive stripped anodizing with a caustic bath myself a few times. On second look, i read 'the black rim' as 'the back rim' and thought that the back rim mightve been chrome . In my defense weve just had twins and ive slept for a sum total of about 20 mins in the last 2 weeks and its obviously taking its toll hahaha. Looking good man, ive followed this build for a while now!
-
Got my bars from SBD yesterday and the wife has been working today so had a mock up.
Any ideas on cleaning tyres? I've scrubbed the back one and used brake cleaner on it, But still seems to have film on it.
It was a fookin nightmare getting the rear tyre on.
Still need to go and pick up a bike I bought in January for the Bottleneck stem :-[

Just really need to sort the brake lever and cranks now. Want to media blast some Powerbites and paint them satin black. If that doesn't happen before MK I have some Profile SS cranks as a back up.

Very cool bike mate. Mike Tag was one of my favourite riders and your build is respecting the great man.
R.I.P Tag

Done abit more tonight and some changes.
Think I'm going to need a new brake lever, The standard Tech77 wont work. Where the bars have been cut done the grips go right to the bend. Going to need a DJ lever I think, Not going to risk bending my current one as I can be heavy handed :buck2:
