Title: New build arrived today. ** RICKMAN RACING PRO**
Post by: southern andy on September 18, 2010, 01:33 PM
Yep arrived today.  :LolLolLolLol:

Anyone that knows anything about me and my bike building will know i don't do easy  :LolLolLolLol: I'm not one to buy bling and build bling.
I buy crap that needs work basically. I'm not a BMX snob so i'll pretty much renovate anything that falls my way, hence my Nishiki, Falcon Pro cruiser and my 2 Halfords Turbo builds.

Anyhow i saw this on the bay with 20mins to go and ummed and arrrreddd.

Didn't know too much about it as the pictures were shocking, sadly the description was correct.  ;D

what i didn't expect was the superb wrapping  :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

I really don't want to unwrap it...... it's quality.

Hoping to take it round Phils this afternoon for him to look at.  :Great_Britain: :Great_Britain:

What have i let myself in for ??????  :idiot2: :idiot2:

Yep a couple of clever chaps on here.  :4_17_5:

I thought the   :Great_Britain: flag may have given it away. :LolLolLolLol:

Yep a Rickman Pro  :smitten:

Took it round Sawzalls today still wrapped, i hadn't even seen it when i got round Phils, didn't take him long to cut away the tiny wrapping. Phil got his Rickman book out that had all the serial numbers, i read the number he checked, bang Rickman Pro.

Happy as larry.

Quick check over and pretty much no damage to the frame. Obviously there are burn marks but they'll come off as we did a tiny bit of the top tube.

Off with the parts then, first up was the doughnut seat clamp, is it Hutch ????? not stamped Hutch so could be an early unstamped one. Next were the Redline forklifter bars, then the DK stem. Sadly the corners are shagged on the top cap but the rest looks ok. Next off was the stem lock thing, looks like a DK one ?????
We then removed the GT Epoch headset, freakin nightmare that was but between the two of us job done and out fell the forks.
Dia Compe MX900 fell off aswell, pretty shagged but we'll see what Mr polish can do. New semi adjuster required obviously. ;D ;D Fire and plastic don't mix.

Seat post left then  :tickedoff: :tickedoff: Not a chance, didn't want to move with the two of us and a vice. Obviously we were worried about splitting any of the Brazed welds on the frame so it was drilling time.

Solid Ali all the way down, thankfully Phil has the king of drills and after cutting it down we got the first drill through, at least 5-6" inside post.
6 different size drills later and we have a paper thin seat post. A screwdriver down the sides for a few mins and a set of long nose liers and the bitch pulls out.  :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5:

Obviously i can't thank Phil enough, i didn't expect him to go to work on it for 2hrs. Whilst i assisted with what i could i sort of felt useless.

Many thanks again Phil, so glad i live local to you.  :LolLolLolLol:

More photos to come but i'm knackered with all my pushing and pulling.  ;D ;D

If you like  :Great_Britain: builds then you're gonna love this puppy.

Best £54 i ever spent in my life.  :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

The lump of metal is the stuck seatpost.  :tickedoff:

If anyone can tell me about the seat clamp and the stem lock thing i'd appreciate it, The cap of the stem is still round Phils as it looks like i'll have to get a cap remade.

The other bits will clean up nice. No structural damage at all to the frame, the chrome has turned a nice Blue/gold under the flame marks.

Nice find Andy  :daumenhoch:  That packaging is up there with the best of them  ::)  :LolLolLolLol:

Much more rewarding to build a bike from this as opposed to bolting a few NOS parts to an NOS frame imo  ;)
Looking forward to seeing the progress on this mate  :daumenhoch:

What's the plans for it , re chrome/colour etc ?

Nice work by Phil too , bloody handy having someone like that on your doorstep !

I'm thinking White Joff although a Rechrome isn't out of the question mate. The stripping of the chrome would sort the scorch marks out.

Nice work by Phil too , bloody handy having someone like that on your doorstep !

You aint wrong, bloody handy when he just loves doing what he does aswell.  My other build is still round there. Just waiting on an afternoon when both have time spare to crack on with that one.

There are peoples frames everywhere round there, a right old list of work to do.

Re-chrome or a colour?

Still undecided Marty, i need to clean up the frame as best i can to see what it's like underneath. I fancy white to be honest.

It's all about Nationality with Phil Nick, he's not a racist but when there's a  :Great_Britain: bike in his hands everything else sort of becomes less important to him  :LolLolLolLol: I won't tell you who's bike he was working on and what is was but it was slung over the over side of his garage quite quickly when this Rickman arrived.

Hi Matt,

I'll try and get some pictures up soon for you mate, it's sort of in pieces at the moment ready for the 30yrs of Bournemouth BMX club this Saturday.  I've also changed the plate number as someone wanted some Haro numbers and i had them, sadly one of them was on this bike  :LolLolLolLol: but i had a few spare so it wasn't a problem.
