Hi there
I was wondering if someone could tell me, The correctmost cost effective thing to tell the chap in America to write on the customs forms? He is posting a set of forks value $60.
Many thanks for help Matt

Used gift, should get round customs
-
If the value is low (below £32) customs can't be bothered most of the time :daumenhoch: but there is no exact science it is all luck

$50 value & gift :daumenhoch:
-
I ordered a present for someone from a US site and she has had to pay £13 to the post office (most of that was a bullshit admin charge)
Value was under $50 but the person sending didn't mark it as gift ::)
Anyone know if porkchop will mark stuff as gift before posting? got $31 worth of bits in the cart as we speak so don't want it happening again
cheers

hi griff, justin (porkchop) usually marks things down in value to prevent theft but the more you buy the more chance of customs etc
:daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

I always ask them to mark it at $20 .. always gets through without charges .. everytime. i always get charges with higher value items from ebay.
I ordered a few things from porkchop about a week ago and emailed him to split the values so its not one high total .. not sure if that works but i should know in the next couple of days.
-
same as wildon says :daumenhoch: mark the value as $20 and it will get threw customs. gift , sample, prezzie etc etc dont usually work . but be aware if the sender marks the box with a low value and it goes missing uve lost your stuff. ???
-
total is $30.97 so will try asking them to mark it at $20
cheers all

Just make sure its not sent by UPS.....................they always go through customs and you will get charged!!
With USPS it should get through okay......................you'll be very unlucky if you dont!!
-
went through to checkout just to see how much it would be total and which post service (US postal as they're only small bits)
will try asking them to mark the value down a bit and cross my fingers....
better hurry up as 'how not to live your life' is on in a few minutes

Off personal experience , I've gota agrre with Bretty :daumenhoch:
Basically send by USPS first class or Priority, not UPS
and as long as it's £30 or less marked value, I've been safe
:)
Plus I've only ever been charged with some U.S purchases, never been charged from the far east ::)

I asked if they could mark it as $20/gift, so now will cross fingers and wait!

I just got my parts from porkchop, i spent about $70 with them and they marked it as a gift and put a value of $5.50 on the package. I didnt even ask them to do that so i'm happy 8)

i think alot of them know the drill now and keep the item value on the box low even without asking them.i had two framesets and a set of bars all seperate transactions sail straight thru customs lately
