Title: PROJECT SCHOFIELD - PART 2!!
Post by: beard1973 on October 27, 2010, 09:21 PM
Don't just straight outta this thread because it's a Burner...  :knuppel2: :knuppel2: :knuppel2:

UK BMX HISTORY at its best follows...  :D :D :D

The majority will know that I was lucky enough to be asked to restore Craig Schofield's 1985 World Championship bike last year.... and it was finished in time for Burner Bash 2010.

It was an honour and thrill to be able to play a part in restoring such a piece of not just british bmx history but also world bmx history.

The building of this was funded by Craig, by selling parts he had accumulated over the years, including the NOS Aero Pro Decal sets that caused such a fuss.

When I presented the bike to Craig earlier this year he told me he had something for me as a 'thank you'...

Imagine my smile when he handed me this...

Along with the line... its the F&F's from my old 'training' bike...    :buck2:  :buck2:  :buck2:  'you can have it as a thank you!'....

I didn't know what to say... and I certainly didn't know what to do with it...
Craig was insistent that I didn't spend £100's restoring it...

So its sat in my garage untouched for the past 5 months...

Until I got this picture from Andy Ruffell...!!! taken in April 1986 at a training camp in Tenerife. Its Craig's 'training' bike....

Well having seen this picture I just gotta build it up EXACTLY how Craig had it for training...

Hopefully it'll be built over the winter months and I might even use it for racing....   :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

Another piece of UK BMX History....   :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley:

Dave hi mate nice to see this is going to take shape  :daumenhoch: Hubs will be SUZUE sealed hubs in CHROME with like you said COMP 2 tyres if you need a pic of the HUBS speak to 58delray AS I SOLD HIM A SET OF SPEEPLINES with the same hubs in from when i rode  with craig for RALEIGH  :daumenhoch:

Nice one WOODY  :)

BUT a close look at the FRONT and it may well be a DIFFERENT hub up FRONT GT SEALED ? .......... Looks like the allen key LOCK nut things on the sides  ??? And i would not put it PAST Craig to run ODD HUBS !!!!!!

WOODY  :4_17_5:

Hopefully when I get a copy of the Magazine I'll be able to see some of the parts better... I'll do a decent scan and post it up for others to help.

Must admit my first reaction was a GT hub... but Id not seen any other picture of Craig running a GT hub... but we'll see...

I've never done a build using ALL survivor parts... this is gonna be fun...  :D :D :D :D :D

I remember seeing Craig & Andy running Elina Flyte Tech Seats at various points in '86.
Andy's was def blue - in that pic it looks like a yellow one Craig has. The straight back underneath looks to confirm this.

The seatclamp looks like one of the 2-piece/4 bolt* Powerlite ones. Another giveaway due to its squarish profile side on.

*edit I mean 2 bolt.. lol got confused counted both sides  :uglystupid2: ...ive added pic further down topic

Good stuff Beardy one, I reckon this will be a great looking bike.  I have to say I am really impressed with Craig for the fact that he has kept so much of his old race gear and what appreciation he shows for a job well done  :4_17_5: .

Just a follow up from my post Dave, regards the clamp - I sold one last year thats why it was fresh in my mind - still had the pic online. I bought it in '85 & was pretty sure it was a Powerlite clamp.

Dave that could be a GT hub as we were CO sponsored by them for BARS and HUBS also as for the SEAT i would not put it past CRAIG for using a AERO ROYAL standard on some BURNERS not the BEST seat in the WORLD !!

BUT CRAIG AT THAT TIME WAS THE BEST RIDER IN THE WORLD  :4_17_5:

You could have given him a TURD and he would have still WON on it !!

Looking forward to seeing this one DAVE  8)

Nice one WOODY  :4_17_5: :idiot2:

I have cleaned this thread up a bit, sorry if I deleted your posts but I have stickied this for a reason!

This bike (even if its a Raleigh ;)) and the rider are a significant part of our (UK) BMX history. I have stickied it as I feel it worthy, and for us all to see the progress on the bike.
If you want to complain any more about it then take it to Rombloke or Stups. They can make the final decision.

Thanks
