Title: Top tube length.......
Post by: MONTE_CARLOW on October 28, 2010, 03:52 PM
Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a bit of advice and info.   Are there any OS 80's bikes with a long TT, ideally 21" plus as I've tried a few and the 18.5/19" just seem too short as I'm 6' tall and 14 stone!!!

Thanks in advance!!

Yup, there's TNT, ELF, Hyper and a few others that do 21" and above toptube.
It is possible on less though, my Haro is only about 20" TT, plenty of OS racers have bikes in the 19.5-20.5" toptube range, that includes those of us 6' tall and above.

The ELF was around in the 80s, some of the other longer bikes also date from the 80s.

Im 6ft tall and 17.5stone. I had a 22" TNT which was too long and now Ive got a 21" Robinson which is just right. There is a thread with some OS toptube lengths somewhere on here if somebody can find it.

TNT frames came out in 86...   from the same factory that made early Hutch and Thruster frame sets.  :P

I say anything 1970's and below=vintage, 80-89=old school, 90-99=mid school and 2000 onwards=new school. Thats just my opinion like

trouble with that is that in the mid school section they say 92 onwards and a lot of people say that old school stops in 86. i have 3 bikes that i regard as old school and they were all made in 90

Thanks for the info guys.

So it looks like I need to look for an Old to Mid School bike to be on the safe side!  So my next question is, does anyone have a complete race ready bike for sale?  I haven't got a massive budget as the bike will most probably spend 90% of the time hung on the garage wall!!

Where are you based fella?

If you're thinking of racing in the North Region just come along to the next race and try a few of our bikes out - it may give you a rough idea of what or not to buy if a complete bike comes along.
And if you want to race before you get a bike just shout up - someone will be able to sort a loner out.

(Take a look in the Old School Series Racing section of the forum for details of the next races.  In't north it'll probs be Coppull in mid-November)
