it's being dechromed at the moment before going to the metal work god that is sawzall for a seat tube replacement then back to the chromers
updates as it gets done :daumenhoch:

Very cool Andy - with that gusset and the loopy end it looks a bit like a Jag - interesting frame mate ;)
-
nice one andy. look forward to seeing this progress. dont let tone see it or he'll have it away.
-
I'm pretty sure there are at least two more of these around but this will definitely be the first one to be restored. I can't wait to see this done, I loved my ACE Racing Pro and was so gutted when it got nicked :'(.
Are you going to try and build in a Cav Strutt stylee (like the one in the advert) or are you going with a different build?
-
Nice one mate, I bet Tony (ratty) would love this thread! ;)
-
Sweet :)
-
Looking forward to seeing it returned to it's former glory :daumenhoch:
-
ooooooOOOOOOO Yeah :coolsmiley:
Hmmm very JAG-esque as Dr Boba said :)
You've got my attention ,come on , crack on wi' it then ;) :D
-
wow - are you doing a replica of your old one?

not quite sure what the final spec will be but it will deffo be period correct, araya 7Cs, red line brute stem etc etc
the cook bros bars on the one Cav is riding are proving a bit elusive to say the least, so maybe GT santa ana bars and i'm gonna want some comp 2s if any one has some going spare ::)
-
uh oh .... wait 'till Ratty hears about this, fasten your seatbelts :LolLolLolLol:

Good stuff, 7c's are deffo the right choice although maybe a Suntour stem rather than a Redline Brute (I only saw a couple of those bitd, seen many more nowadays though!). There's a pair of Cook's bar on US ebay at the moment but I say build it as you like, just hurry up with it :LolLolLolLol:
Very cool Andy - with that gusset and the loopy end it looks a bit like a Jag - interesting frame mate ;)
They were originally designed around the Cook Bros frame IIRC ;)
-
wow nice to see one at last :daumenhoch:
its gonna be a cracking build
as said already the frame is very jag like

if you look closely at the Cav Strutt picture you can see he had a Redline brute stem on his although as you say suntours were more common, in fact i had a Suntour on mine :daumenhoch:
you are totaly correct when you say they were designed around the Cook bros frame :daumenhoch:

Eagle eyed :LolLolLolLol:
I remember talking to Cav about the frames before they went on sale and managed to get Richard Barrington to let me have one at a discount before they were officially released! I also got a jersey and race pants too but only have the race pants still, no idea what happened to the jersey!
-
here you go Marty, a Cook Bros frame, you can see the dropouts and the brake bridge are almost identical to the Ace

Yeah, very, very similar!
I think Cav had a Cooks Bros at one point which is probably why the ACE Racing is styled that way ;)
-
Very cool Andy , look forward to progress on this one ;)
-

When ACE folded Richard sold the stock to Superbike who had knocked them out adinfinitum yet only a few remain and only one it seems that we know of :(. If any ever sees one please let me know :daumenhoch:.

Love this thread - Phil did exactly the same to my brother's white 600a you saw him building up last year at MK and you'd never know, the work is so good :daumenhoch:
-
some also ended up in a shop in SE london when ACE folded but can't for the life of me remember it's name, but they were advertised in a mag at the time and my dad took me over and bought my one for £35 :)
