evening all
before I go and upset the purists (again) with an ill-advised choice of bars I thought I'd see what you think would be a suitable pair to go on my '85 haro master
criteria
must be chrome and not too wide/tall (after all I'm only 5'8'') also on a budget
any guidance on prices/widths very welcome - hard to tell widths from the pictures
probably ready to buy in about a month so just looking for advice at this stage
cheers

these would be my #1 choice (how wide are they?) but they're not exactly cheap if you need chrome ones

again probably not cheap, but I did think of gt bars when I made my mate get his old haro off the balcony. thats got gt bars on and they felt just right, dunno if they were 'pro' tho? any idea how wide/much?
burner bars :2funny: :2funny:
now you're talking! love the v-bar style! probably would even have enough left out of the budget for some streamers to put in the grips
cheers

Skyway ez are a great set of bars and come in a variety of colours including chrome and are cheaper than the others or hare knee savers
-
Just done some measuring and the Haro freestyle bars for
70cm wide x 30 cm high
Knee savers
65cm wide x 25 cm high
The purists would say knee savers are to new for your bike but the are great to ride with. :daumenhoch:

thanks brettypeeps - didn't realise the rise was that much on the Masters (12") they look really nice but if I'm honest they might be a tad too big
Had thought about kneesavers & not especially fussed about year correctness - bitd I was never concerned that I was putting newer parts on my 82 bike (I called them upgrades then!)
Although tbh I like the style of older chrome bars, the size though I reckon would be a better fit @ 25" wide
I like the look of the ez II bars too, as you mentioned there are various colours and you still can pick up new ones for not too much eg from coloredtuffs - the chrome ones always seem to be up for much more though. anyone know how big they are?
cheers

Think I have a set of chrome knee savers somewhere, LMK if they are of any interest and I'll send you some pics....
Bru :daumenhoch:
might be mate - if you're not in too much of a rush that is! (as I mentioned earlier just doing my research right now while I get the moneys together)

GT Performer bars in white
Not too difficult to find and wont break the bank
Pretty big though at 29"x 8" but you can always cut em down a bit, i'm only 5' 5" and they were fine for me
Nice bars if you're gonna ride, had some on me gen1 for a while....

re: gt bars - any idea if these win-made copies are any good quality-wise?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NOS-BMX-WIN-HANDLE-BARS-CHROME-GT-STYLE-PRO-OLD-SCHOOL-/290498790549?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item43a313c495#ht_2048wt_1140
they are a lot cheaper than GT originals I've seen
wasn't sure about the height before but now I know what stem's going on (adenough's dk) means i can go higher than would have with something like a forklifter. will measure the gt ones on my mates old haro at the weekend and see how they measure up - they felt just about right

thought I'd bump this as there's another couple of pairs of these on the bay - anyone out there who can comment on the quality of WIN bars?
cheers

nothing wrong with them, decent bars - but they are considered budget.

thanks sid
not too concerned with any 'budget' jibes - the seat will probably generate more loathing anyway but i am on a budget
not exactly expecting to find any cheap haro masters or skyway ez2s in chrome, tried my mate's gt bars out for size last weekend and while they looked/felt great, they were a tad wide for me - 26" should be about spot on
I could always put gt stickers on and see if I can fool people that don't read this thread ;D
-
Personally Griff I would spend a bit more on the bars and get a set of Haro Kneesavers in Chrome :daumenhoch:
You should get a Super Minty pair for about £60 posted if not a bit cheaper

was originally gonna go for older style bars, still getting used to the look of the kneesavers but they have grown on me
they might fit in with my 'not quite era correct' selection of haro bits I've already got/getting (pedals, chainring/disk, tyres)
gonna be a month before I can get the cranks on and still have to get my axles shortened somewhere so will exercise patience and see if something turns up!
cheers
