Title: Orange z rims and bits resto
Post by: JOO on November 10, 2010, 10:14 PM
Finally got some orange z rims after looking for ages and when they arrived i was well gutted, the rims really grubby but the hubs and spokes where rough as a badgers arse. So i`ve taken them apart and had a go at the hubs. Here are some pics of my progress so far....(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/b048ba8e.jpg) (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/b79c4c6a.jpg) (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/c78f3231.jpg) (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/dc4240dc.jpg) (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/04aeb7e6.jpg) (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/505f007a.jpg) (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/6595564a.jpg) (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/b9fd6d1b.jpg)  (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/816677a7.jpg)
Just waiting for the spokes to be posted then i`ll have a go at rebuilding them, hope i don`t scratch my hubs in the process.

they should look nice when built up, white spokes and black nipples would look sweet as, where did you get the orange z'ds?

Hi yep iv`e` got white with black nips i`m copying this  (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/pkloopy3.jpg) i know i shouldn`t  be copying someone else`s idea but i think it looks amazing. i was looking at your post with the white z`s you did a good job on them. Have you ever done orange? i`m just wondering if i keep at it with wet and dry will they get brighter like your white ones or might orange not have the same results, cheers oh and i got them off ebay they looked ok on the pic.

Weird....  Have you seen my thread on page 2 this forum section re: dyeing z rims? I too love the white/orange pk ripper (the one on bmxmuseum.com?). I was looking to replicate this bike & colour combination myself.  I think the white/orange combo is the best around. Great find in getting orange z rims.... I didn't know they were ever officially produced in that colour. I have a few acs ads from 84/85 & they only seemed to come in red/yellow/blue/white/black & lilac, although i have seen the odd green pair around. Cant wait to see it finished. Good luck with the build.

Dam! Spent most of the weekend trying to lace the front wheel but i couldn't get it right the spokes kept ending up longer on one side of the wheel and as a result of the spokes been in and out of the hub many times the paint flaked around the holes, then the spoke key fell off a spoke and onto the hub chipping it! So i will have to repaint it.and paint the nipples cos the paint wore off them.So no progress today.(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/320e16bb.jpg)

I was surprised to see it in the early stages , i immediately thought wow that looks familiar , 2007 BOTY   ::) was it ?

But when I came back to see Cooks cranks aswell as the hutch stem and  Z's  , I had to go and find Olliecw's on here to see

Is this the same bike , put back together

Either way it's a cracker , I voted for his 3 years ago  :daumenhoch:  8)

I suppose if its perfect why  change any bits on it    :daumenhoch:

What happened was,i was copying ollies bike part for part and i got everything except the crank and i have been trying to get a cook bros one for a while and not found exactly the right one. Then ollie`s pk came up on ebay and i couldn`t  believe it so i thought right i`ll get it and either keep that and sell mine or take off the crank and put it on mine and sell the parts. But!! when i got it home i couldn`t bring myself to do it, i didn`t fancy damaging anything trying to get the crank bb out so my next option was keep olllies frame and crank and put my newer parts on it so thats where i`m at but i can`t keep both one has to go either complete or in parts but i can`t decide which one to keep it feels silly selling ollie`s when that`s my dream bike but i don`t want to let the other one go cos i`ve enjoyed putting it together.Big dilema!!!(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy152/JOO_014/bars001.jpg)
