Title: Advice - changing the alloy hub in a tuff wheel
Post by: toooldforthis on April 28, 2006, 08:47 AM: I am looking to swap a hub from one tuff to another, is it difficult to do?

Aren't the hubs riveted on??

Post by: Coastvl on April 28, 2006, 09:05 AM: Yes they are. They are almost impossible to reproduce. I did say ALMOST! Everyone just uses bolts to replace them now. I done my first one back in 1980! Grind the heads off and punch them through.

Post by: BrianP on April 28, 2006, 09:22 AM: Gotta make sure you grind off or drill off the original rivet head and not the end which was rivetted, since the rivetted end will have flared during the rivetting process and it's a bugg*r to try and pull this through the plastic and you also risk damaging the holes for the hub.
Drilling off the original rivet heads means you're pulling the wider rivetted end away from the hub as opposed to through it.

Does that make sense?

Drilling is better than grinding though. I have done a few ;)

anyone interested in trying? id need the diameter(accuratly measured) of the material used :uglystupid2:
