Bit of advice needed. I've got a Kuwi frame that was originally green then sprayed black and I wanted it get it resprayed so it looked the part. I took it to this place near me and the guy sounded pretty confident that he could strip it back to the metal and powdercoat it black so it would look the dogs.
Picked it up before and am really disappointed with it. The finsh is a bit tacky, its not wet but when I caught the frame with my finger nail it kinda of stuck into the paint slightly. I thought when things are powder coated the heat makes the paint adhere to the metal much better then wet spraying - which is why bikes are powder coated? Anyway I was going to leave it and build it with the parts I've got but It was bugging me too much. So I tried to remove a tiny bit of the paint on the underside of the frame where the serial number is (which wasn't visible anymore as the thickness of the paint here was considerably more than everywhere else on the frame) with my fingernail. The paint just peeled away with relative ease all around this area and others places. I'm far from an expert on these things but i would have thought that if it had been powder coated then this wouldn't be possible?
Needless to say I'm pi$$ed off as it's just not right and I can't leave like this, so does anyone one know where I can get this done professionally / properly in the North West Stockport / Manchester way preferably. Or I am just being far too picky and expecting too much?
Sorry about the rant.

Super Bike Dan ... satisfaction everytime :daumenhoch:

with my experiance with powder i found it can be a bit tacky and kind of plastic looking :(
-
I used to get mine done local until I tried SBD... Wouldn't use anyone else now. Chuck it in the post his way... You won't be disappointed :daumenhoch:

Cheers everyone, I'll PM him now.

That doesn't sound right to me, I would chuck it back at him.
I have never used Dan, I have always used a local guy who I am more than happy with, although I have seen Dans work and it is spot on, better than my guy, but further away and a bit more money, plus postage etc.
If I was doing a show build, it would go to Dan, no question, but for my riders, my local man rocks. I have never had a tacky finish, or a noticable build up, apart from some dodgy pedal cages I asked him to put plenty on, the teeth looked a bit `drippy' at the bottom,. certainly can't peel it off with your finger though.

dans the man ,,,,fookin end of :4_17_5:

:) Don`t know if Rad member Meticulous still does bike spray jobs? He`s in North Manc & has done a few frames for me and the job has been excellent :daumenhoch:
-
dan does wet spraying too and that also is spot on :daumenhoch:
-
i have frames by dan and sam (meticulous) and they are both spot on
-
just reread your post and it sounds like bad prep and too heavy paint, basically a shit job :(

Get a Pick up of the masters work :daumenhoch:

Ok, so my camera is bobbins and don't really do the finish as much justice as is deserved, but here is the finished frame - once i get the decals from Del I'll put it together and post in Dans dedicated thread.

Please note that on this last photo there are small bits of fluff on the drop out area which really stand out on this photo for some reason - basicaly its not a finishing issue as the finish/powder is immaculate, would recommed SBD to anyone.
-
He does a cracking job that's for sure :daumenhoch:
-
Looks well lush! SBD is :4_17_5:
-
Looks mint. :4_17_5:
If the bike is for show, using nylon washers on the rear axle would stop the powder on your dropouts getting messed up. :daumenhoch:

How strange , i've just had my NOS kuwi F+F powdered black as well . ( Metal Magic in Barnsley ) . I'm going black and blingy chrome whats your set up going to be , and are you going to ride it ? :)
-
No way, not sure if I'm going to ride it yet, probably will but on the look out for something else anyway so depends how long this takes. I'm going for a similar set up as yourself got most bits now and just waiting for a few smaller items to turn up so should be posting pics before new year off the finished build!
