Title: NISHIKI finally finished.
Post by: southern andy on December 02, 2010, 02:50 PM
At last  :LolLolLolLol:

I picked this up a long time ago now and have slowly refurbished it over the year.

It did make an appearance at MK10 but in all honesty it wasn't finished. I finally got some tyres last week which was the missing piece of the jigsaw.

It's pretty well loaded with nice parts aswell

Ukai rims
Suntour hubs
Suntour Power stem
Maxy Cross crank
KKT Lightening pedals
Elina saddle
Dia Compe F+R 890's
Redline stamped V bars

Here's the original thread about it.

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=101720.0

I'm not entirely sure what year it is bit i'd hazard a guess at 81/82. The parts on this bike are virtually all original to the bike.

I know it's not a JMC or a Hutch but here goes.

Happy days.

Love it Andy - glad you got her finished in the end mate  :coolsmiley:

Not too many of those Elina seats knocking round with the holes in the side  8)

Watched one of them go for decent money a while back on ebay  ;)

If that seat came original to the suvivor bike I reckon your estimate of 81/82 is about right mate - I've got an original stock piccy of a 1981 mototrac wearing one of those seats :daumenhoch:

Looks ace  :coolsmiley:

It's the exact seat of the bike John, i hadn't even noticed it had holes in the side.

It's something different/unusual with a few nice bits on it too , great job Andy

Different and unusual  :LolLolLolLol:   i do seem to find the rare bikes don't i.

Cheers for all the healthy replies chaps, i didn't expect good vibes about it as it's not a top build cost wise and it certainly isn't big named BMX.

Personally Andy I prefer to see a bike restored like this than some bolt together NOS build , the fact that it's something unusual just adds to it's appeal imo  ;)

I do think you should have put a pic up of how it was when you got it . (not everyone will click on that link  ::) ) It shows what a great job you have done with it  :daumenhoch:

No Christian mate, the crank, chainring, early Suntour Power stem ( note the angle) and the calipers were stripped and cleaned. I had to replace the DC levers and the seat post though as they were completely shagged.

The original Redline V bars were too shot and needed a rechrome, thankfully Paul Snav 69 came to my rescue and sold me a set exactly the same as the originals for the same price as the rechrome. Obviously doing this saved the REDLINE Stamp where a rechrome would have lost it.

cheers guys   :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

See Phil doesn't only work with metal, he's a god with other material aswell.

The seat was cracked in quite a few places, i was going to leave it as i was unsure on how to fix plastic. I dyed it red but it went burgundy. I took it to Phils when i was next round and he said he could try and do something at work.

Top man, he even managed to give the seat a textured look like how it was originally, then a trip to B&Q for the plastics paint and job done.

Can't thank you enough mate.  :4_17_5: :4_17_5:

Had to come back for a second look and seen the seat restoration pics; fantastic stuff even more proof you can save stuff from the landfill with great results.  What paint did you use, was it a plasticote or something?

cheers

Marty  :daumenhoch:
