Title: tyre pressure
Post by: andy irwin on May 01, 2006, 02:39 PM
Ok this sounds daft but what is a good tyre pressure for old school street? I am told it is 70 psi but I dont remember it feeling like I had solid tyres bitd. I know this isn't as good as Andy Shohara's thread but what is? :LolLolLolLol:

Ta muchley  Andy

70 psi.

stuff one tyre inside of another for extra hardness / durability

andy those tyres are ggod for 110 psi
i personally run 75-80....its a little less strenuous on older wrists.

for wooden parks you can run higher pressures, but concrete parks and street you can drop the pressure a tad

i tend to put about 70 in mine and landings when i do manage to get the 34lbs of bike off the ground can be hard on the wrists but more pressure equals less chance of wheel damage so get em pumped

I run about 30! and I seem to be on my own! but look at my landing and I don't get close to touching the rim

Andy i ride loads of street and run my tyres the same pressure for parks, street, Bones bowl anywhere reallly always keep em at 90psi or there abouts. Ran the same pressure on HP peregrine wheels from 1988-91 prior to that cant remember probably no more than 50. Street riding relies on a certain amount of speed so harder tyres, sealed bearings= more speed less effort!

Thanks a lot for that  , Gonna get pumping then and give em a go at 90 psi. I think at my weight 30psi would be to soft .What do you weigh jazzchimp?. :daumenhoch:

Not sure, I think it's 69 kilos. To be honest I do it by the old thumb on tyre technique

Boys.....  pump 'em up!!

I run 110psi in mine front and rear, although I do let a little out when i'm riding concrete (to save my wrists a wee bit), but never lower than 90.  That said, I'm in no way light  :-[    I go 14.5 stone these days.....

I think the harsh ride is as much to do with modern stiff frames and forks and improvements in rim design.  Not to mention old age  ;D

There's a clever little formula that i invented to work out the correct tyre pressure for you. Its called the tricknuts tyre pressure law.

Take you weight in Kg subtract your age, and add this number to the product of the number of pints you can drink and the number of BMX bikes owned.

weight - age + (pints drunk x Bikes owned) = pressure in psi.

This always worked for me

I use 70psi but im on tuffs. I'd use about 90 on spokes with gloves and soft fooking grips.  :LolLolLolLol:
