Hi all
The Ripper is coming along well, pictures will follow. One question, it is a 1983 model, what brake should I put on? I have some Mx 1000's ( I think) but I am saving them for another build. Any advice very much appreciated :)

if you dont want to use the mx1000 then try dc 890's or 1020,although a bit more basic looking they are still great brakes and proper old school,or try shimano tourney
they are still readily available from vertego and wont break the bank
-
Idealy mx1000 but as Markyp said all the others are acceptable and probably cheaper. Now get the pictures up :LolLolLolLol:
-
890 s reach ???
-
I don't think anything under an mx1000 will reach
So mx1000 or 1020
I could be wrong though
-
1000s , 1020s and tourneys reach
-
its in mm aint it , from centre of spindle to bottom of lowest point brake pads can go , mx1000 are 100 mm ( take the end zero off) 900 90 mm and so on
-
1000s , 1020s and tourneys reach
:daumenhoch: What Carl said ;)
Are you sure its a 1983 Ripper, you can't identify the year/age of a Looptail Ripper from the serial number .
Only the fact that it is approx late 79 upto late 84
The only way you'll know what age it is is if you or mate bought it at the shop originally :daumenhoch:

Ta for that, whaen I bought it off ebay about 6 years ago (has taken that long to doing it) the seller had it from new and said it was 83, it is a looptail any way ;)

A tourney might also be too short, check this out first.

don't use mx900s. i made that mistake and even with the wheel as far forward as it goes the brakes only half catch the rim. now changed to an mx1000 thanks to snav.

Nice chart Rodgy , a good reference :4_17_5: Good for Tech and resto sticky :daumenhoch:
Like advised earlier by Wardy , these have been tried and tested (MX1000 ,Tourney and 1020's )
Plus Cotty built up a looptail Ripper this week with a Tourney :daumenhoch:

Wouldnt mind a MX1000 but think they may be a bit expensive!
-
what colour you after?
-
The f&f are yellow and the rest is black with chrome cranks, so black, chrome or gold
-
early SE adverts show the loopy ripper with the caliper underneath the brake bridge so not so sure if this is how OM designed it, but for me i think 1020's look more at home on a loopy just because they are a bit more OLD school without the snobbery.... ;)

No probs :)
Put up a wanted add for some DC 1020's, should be able to get some handy enough.
