Title: Thought i'd share this with you
Post by: Swivel on January 20, 2011, 05:14 PM
I bought these off my fellow french lover of bob haro - Arnaud  ;D back in December, anyway they are the correct 1985 bars for masters, but the condition wasn't great, quite pitted all over it, like tiny orange dots really, no flaking of chrome just lots of nickel poking through, anyway I know some people haven't had such great successes with chromers but the one I go to RCJ near me sorted them right out. I said my aim was to keep the original chrome but get the finish nice. He said it wasn't possible with some normal polishing, but it is possible with some quick processes and they will look like nice and retain the original chrome, so no need to get them stripped right back and rechromed. So I watched each process, took about 25 minutes altogether, dip in one part for 5 mins, quick polish, then dip in another to remove the rust for a minute or so, then another dip for 5 mins, then a hot wash, then another polish and they are now very blingy, very shiny, no pitting, the odd mark but they were used but certainly now ready for a show bike, look lovely I must say, my photo indoors just don't do them justice. Thought i'd share this with you, shows you can retain the original chrome with some thought even if the part is really rusty or pitted  :smitten:

Below are Arnauds photos of the bars before i bought them...

Now the finished bars, very minty and didn't cost me nothing as they owed me a favour. I'll get some more pics outside tomorrow  ;)

sweet one matt (was the fav a lot of bumming ?) you should have video'd it - the chrome process i mean  ;D

i'm just about to write a thread about how "the gooose gets cooked" was done and how with a bit of work you can give chrome a new life

one side of the fork has rust and dullness - the other side has been brought back to life
