Title: My latest bike is NOT a mongoose !!!
Post by: bobafett on January 30, 2011, 10:56 PM

But.............

It's not a BMX either  :-[  :LolLolLolLol:

So it started like this...........

My dad had been chirping on about wanting a mountain bike so we all chipped in and got him one for christmas. I was tasked with finding the bike and we had a budget of £250 - £300

A second hand bike wasn't an option with it being a gift so off I went comparing specs. Did a bit of reading on some MTB sites, read a bunch of reviews and started a few threads.

Key things I wanted to achieve where:

- Hydraulic disc brakes
- Forks with a decent amount of travel and preload

After a lot of reading I desided on the Carrera Vengeance - originally £499 and pre christmas £299  :)

So after viewing the bike I decided, fook it - I'm having one of them too  :LolLolLolLol:

My brother-in-law who was after replacing his old budget MTB saw the spec and said fook it I want one too  :2funny: :LolLolLolLol:

So I go in the store asking for more discount cos we're buying 3 and end up getting them for £269  >:D

Not the greatest MTB by a long stretch but for an entry level bike at £269 i think it's a crackin' little machine............

The guy in halfords said - we can build them up for you or you can have them come dis-assembled in the box.

My brother in-law said "yeah go on I'll have mine built by you guys"

I said "fook off I'll build it myself"  ;)

My brother-in-law picked his up and they had the fookin handle bars on backwards  :2funny: :LolLolLolLol:

that's the exact bike I got mrs griff on boxing day  :daumenhoch:

although it cost a bit less than that

was in the halfords sale down to £244.98
on boxing day they offered 10% off everything online, but this also included gift vouchers
so we reserved £220-worth of vouchers online and picked them up for £198
we reserved the bike online in a shop down the road (in case they thought we were taking the piss) and then went in & paid with the vouchers
on top of this we put both orders via a cashback site so there might even be a 4% on both the vouchers and the bike, but tbh it was a great deal anyway

my brother in law has been using one of these to get to work every day and he's well happy with it, he's normally pretty tough on bikes and the fact that it's still in perfect nick speaks volumes  :daumenhoch:

mrs griff is a bargain hunter extraordinaire

LOL - I do like the look of that "program" with the gumwall tyres, seen it before, but it's all tubes steel  ???

That 2011 "fraction" at the top there is obviously a much better model and full chr-mo but I think I prefer the 2010 model "legion" here :

But I don't think I'm ready to take the plunge into the dark side  :-\

No new school BMX for me just yet  :LolLolLolLol:
