Old School has long been a very large race group in the North Region, in 2009 there was a show & shine event at Preston at the Summer Series race.
Are there any plans to have something similar again? Would anyone be up for it?
I thought it was one of the highlights of the day...so many great bikes that were obviously well cared for and a huge crowd looking at them misty eyed!
If there's interest in putting one on, please let me know and I'll work with whoever gets behind it to promote it in the North.
Please feel free to email me too!

I'd be well up for some of this... :daumenhoch:
I know Hunterdubber likes to get his bikes out as well... :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley:

Sounds like a great idea Rooster.
I think the last Old School Grands/Show and Shine has the record for most OSers racing (at a Regional) - something like 30. So a show and shine would probably boost numbers on the gate too - everyones a winner!
The 2009 event was published in BMX world - a 4 page article!
Let's make it happen - I'll bring my collection of garish early nineties racewear!

This could probably tempt me out of the house as long as you don't need a BCF licence to show your stuff :)

Perhaps Rooster could persuade the North Region to exempt OS racers from requiring BCF Licence for this one off event ???

i'd like so see rinkydinkyplinky in his sheerpinkyslinkies, ......................................again :-* :bondage: :LolLolLolLol:

I'll see what I can do about BC licence, as it would be at a Regional, riders usually don't need a licence, just a BC membership (I think :-\ )
The North Region has an open meeting on Saturday 12th March at the velodrome. The idea is it's open to riders and WAGs, club helpers etc, not just club committee members.
More details are on the North Region website.
Here's the race dates for the 2011 Summer Series (please note, we may be changing the date of the Bradford round due to a clash)
Rd. 1 April 17th Leeds (Fearnville)
Rd. 2 May 15th Bradford
Rd. 3 May 29th Crewe
Rd. 4 June 12th Mid lancs
Rd. 5 June 26th North East
Rd. 6 July 17th Preston
Rd. 7 August 7th Manchester
Rd. 8 August 28th Goldcoast
Which round would be best for the Show & Shine?

:( ooh heck, if it does change please let us know asap :daumenhoch:.
There's already a couple of rounds we can't do and I've promised the lad that we'll do the Brits this year. Fingers crossed!

I stand corrected - you get a Provisional Licence free with BC Membership. :daumenhoch: How about a one off exemption for the requirement for a BC membership?
-
A one off show and shine/OS Grands has already been discussed with BC last year (by me) and in theory has already been approved for a regional as long as its alright with the regional officials etc, etc. So as long as they know the date then it should be alright.
Most of the OS'ers will have membership anyway.
-
The date for the Preston Regional looks set to change top 5th June....
and Ian Brookes has said he'd be well up for Preston hosting the Show & Shine, he thinks OS adds a great dimension to an event and the history link is positive. :4_17_5:
So, Moley if you've been asking for the event, fancy organising it You're the OS man with the contacts! I'm not! :)
The date should be confirmed so get polishing.....

James, you could flex the rules and run them as Novices and they wouldn't need a licence at all that way as I understand it. Humps
-
Is this a go'er then ?
-
Anyone know if this is gonna be happening?
-
Spoke to Nikki anf Tracy last week and they said it was!

Cool.
Did they mention if the Licence exemption for OS racing was happening? It'd be good to get a big turnout and give Old School a kick up the arse! This will probably be my first post-break race.

No, nothing mentioned about licences. I 'll be down again this week and can ask then
-
Spoke with Andy Lennon tonight. the club met yesterday and want this to go ahead, racing and show n shine.
Will know more regarding the licence situation by Friday, but would like to see as many folk there as possible!!
-
Was the dead pidgeon picker at the meeting?
-
It'd be cool to get a decent turnout - we need to be bigging this up on RAD. Where's Moley with the offical riders list thread?
-

James I could put out a row of 8 rather than two rows of 4 ::) ;)

Hmmm, I wonder if there's a world record for BMX Domino Knock-Down.
Dubber, you bring your entire collection and I'll email Roy Castle...
-
Apologies for this having taken so long to confirm, but I've had word from the Region Secretary that as Old School is no longer a British Champs event that an event like this should be supported and therefore OS riders can take part in racing at Preston as part of the Show&Shine as novices :)
Let the good times roll!

Why did Preston get changed from July? :tickedoff:
WTF!!! I'm going on a stag do on the 28th/29th of May.
And I'm in the IOM for the TT on the 3rd Jun to 12th Jun.
I wont make a race until Hartlepool on the 26th.

Any news on the licence situation Cotty?
I'd be good to start a push on this race now and get a good turnout. I think the previous Old School Grands record was 29 riders (and I'm proud to say I came 28th)!
-
Yes, all sorted as Rooster said.
Licences not required for OS as it will be run as a novice class!
Club are reallyt interested in a show and shine as well and are looking for an indication on numbers.
Moley can you start some knid of thread matey?
Anybody got gazebos etc??
-
Will be a top event,we should get loadsa riders.
Obviously some wont have a licence for this season so they will have no excuse and will be well up for it as a one off.
Race fee will should be 3 quid cheaper as well :D
-
You could probably do it at every regional - all enter novice en masse. Most novices are under 30, so you'd probably get your own class, with maybe the odd croozer dad in as well...

Are you gonna lower your standards and race Old School for this one Jon?

Lower my standards James? :knuppel2:
It's way harder for me to keep upright and pedalling on an OS bike (the ones I've used anyway), so it'd be raising my standards. I love the banter and bar-banging action of OS :smitten:, but NS cruiser is where it's at for building my skills and confidence.
-
:D
Probably gonna stick with NS cruiser at regionals for the moment... I'd have loved to have raced OS cruiser at MK but the date clashes with family hols... Bob Fields also clashes with a gig at the moment so that's looking unlikely to...
Peace and love and kisses
Jon
