I don't know what is ? no one seemed to know what it was !
but mine came with some intresting parts
Alloy hubbed skyways
NITTO bars
shimano DX pedals
sugino snowflake 44t chain ring
ODI grips - dead
Tioga seat
but also had cheap brakes and levers
and a unknown stem ?
strange that no one knows it - you would think that some one would have seen this gusset plate before ?
i will say that mine like yours has tabs on the frame for a chain guard !
cheers B ;)

I would say restore it how you want to regardless of the f&f. I have an aero frame that has not 100% been identified but it will still be getting UKAIs etc because i think it will be a great rider when finished. I know i have seen that gusset before but it was back in the eighties when I last saw one and for the life of me can't remember what it is, hell, I can't remember bugger all from last week!!!!!!
-
I stand to be corrected, but that looks like a `Universal' branded frame, and could well be turned into an eye catching ride.
Don't think it'll be ever worth a huge amount of money, but if money was the net result of old BMX's, just about everyone on here would have slipped a noose on long ago!!!
Good luck with it and enjoy the build!

cool, another nice mystery bike 8)
what is it :( ? who will solve the myyyysteryyyy :coolsmiley: ?"!?
-
I think you are supposed to mate ;) ;D
-
No point giving it a name... it won't come when you call. :)
-
I think the frame is a VICEROY. I had one of these in 1982.
It was my first BMX.

what you say, pretty close, isn't it? Although i can't really see if it's a single gusset. But if you'd say so -- then I'd say we got a winner. :smiley6600:
-
the gusset is a twin plate mongoose style on both my Viceroys - the other has a singel plate ;)
will have to dig out that white viceroy and do clean it up soon 8)

my guess is there is a viceroy model with only one gusset plate.
hardening the viceroy theory:
a viceroy's stem might look loike this

your's any like this, chris? ???
-
I think my silver viceroy does have a stem like that, but don't think the red one has - but it might have been just a cheap way to do stems like that back then ?

Those type of stems came on many budget 80's completes.
I just gave one away :LolLolLolLol:

Win did stems like this also, but they are stamped -
They did a slanted version too which is what's on the bikes in ET :daumenhoch:

no, but seriously.... of course the fact that that TYPE of stems was used often during a certain period still doesn't necessarily deminish the meaning of (possibly) finding three IDENTICaL stems for identifying, i guess :smiley6600:
cool pics -- did you know that the one doin the jump in the balaclava ...is Bob Haro,? :D 8)
