I have had my Haro Freestyler TPP1805F since new. My dad bought it from Pro Am, Shirley, Solihull in 83.
I was going to bin it years ago but I enjoyed my bmxing year so much I never had to heart to throw it away.
One day decided to get it chromed and maybe fix it up a bit. Not knowing how rare these bikes had become I only took a few pictures “on an old mobile phone” prior to the rebuild/refurb and very poor ones at that only to see where the decal should go.
I got the frame/forks rechromed and it was only when I started to look for parts I realised how rare these bikes had become and there was even an actual database of serial numbers.
So to do the bike justice I decided to breathe some life back into it.

Yes my Dad got me some yellow skyways for there for an ultra burner i had prior to the haro.
I know what you mean about the chroming however i would not of built the bike in the condition it was in it was really rough.
-
Thats pretty damn nice :daumenhoch:
-
cool to have your old bike from bitd, bang tidy :daumenhoch:
-
Re-chrome looks a good job, although i'm with antiquebmx in wishing you hadn't
The original chrome on these was real thin and they never look 100% after re-chroming
Cracking build though dude, especially as its your bike from bitd.... :4_17_5:
Wish i'd kept mine, sold it complete for 40 quid in 1990.... :'(
-
Just out of interest how many of the original parts have you re-used?
-
Thats superb and excellent that you still have your original bike. I database the Haro's in the registry and you have a June 1983 Mark 2 Haro Freestyler.
I'm not a big fan of restoration, but seeing as you have had that old girl for 28 years, id say you owe it a facelift and it looks great. Nice work
Dom :daumenhoch:
-
Sweet resto, but what did you do with the blue Tuffs you took off it though - can I buy them >:D :LolLolLolLol:
I'd love to have my original bike from BITD too - that is one very special piece of kit bud :daumenhoch:
Oh, and Firebird Steve on here can help with the pads - he made a custom size one for my Sport recently :coolsmiley:
-
Stunning!
For me it is simply a perfect "facelift" :daumenhoch:

Very nice resto :daumenhoch: I luckily kept mine from BITD and had to get it rechromed as well as I'd sprayed it red :-\
If I had to be super critical , I'd do without the pegs, but I'm loving all the rest. :4_17_5:
-
Very nice facelift indeed! Couldn't have done it better myself...well...anyways looks top notch!
-
Great bike, well done for hanging on to it for so long, not many of us have our original bikes from bitd......cool.
-
i think you have done it justice with a re-chrome, it needed a new lease of life and i also couldnt have left it all crusty either... :daumenhoch:
-
Ace :daumenhoch:

-
Quality mate, looks really nice :4_17_5:
-
nice to see a re-chrome that turned out ok for once 8)
I can see a bit of pitting beneath the new chrome in certain areas which is a shame but unavoidable at times. Maybe a bit more polishing might have helped. :-\
The finished bike looks lovely BTW.
-
Great to see you've still got your old bike :daumenhoch:
-
Great build :smitten:
