Fook, that is real $hit, are you going to build another one ???
-
Love the old pics. Shame you had it nicked. Time to build a new one me thinks :4_17_5:
-
Yep i'm on with it now just got f&f but it's white so i'm thinking of getting it chromed and then get all the same bits as i had before. But i quite like it white so not sure if i should build somthing similar with better parts that will prob look better than my old one or just copy it exact cos that is prob the only way it will be like getting my bike back
-
Do it like your old one :daumenhoch:
I have some cw's and an sr stem if your interested? :D

look like expert to me, anyone else ?
-
Sorry but if its a NOS ( or really good condition ) white frameset you've got then if it was mine I'd swap it for a chrome one but don't have it chromed 8)
make sure you get the black blocks on the front and red on the back to recreate the brake rub :) god is in the details y'know
-
Ha yes i was wondering if i should just get white brake pads this time round but i wouldn't be the same! You missed the headset thats red at the bottom and chrome at the top i also have a home made flex fighter made from a cut down red mushroom grip. :LolLolLolLol:
-
Thats a real shame you got it nicked :knuppel2:
I bet it was someone who knew you, or a friend of a friend who knew you was going on holiday. >:(

:LolLolLolLol:
Probably worked just as well as a proper flex fighter :daumenhoch:

Got the frame and forks on friday and they looked good in white but i thought i'd better have it the same as it was so i stripped off the paint so i could get it chrome plated but when i took the paint off i found body filla on the top tube so i got that off and the frame looked like this

-
Have you had to have somthing similar repaired that way?

fookin gutted for yer ,not the end of the world get it filled and powdered coated and build tribute sister bike :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
-
Ive brazed a few dinks but nothing as bad as that structurally. If you cant return it to the seller at least try and get a partial refund or at worst get it brazed or lead filled. Personally I would go for a brazed repair as it may add some strength to the area and then you can file it down then sand and polish it flush. I wouldnt advise riding that bike hard at any point though in the future unless you replaced the entire toptube and then you would have issues with heat affecting the materials crystal stucture and that is why 4130 frames go through heat treatment after welding.

I have filled smaller dints with weld but that needs braze or lead, its the best way to do it,as the tube is quite thin :daumenhoch:
the frame will be slightly bulged where its been whacked,so may need some work to get it round again :-\,think thats where the grind marks come into it :(
-
If its been ground to get it round then that area is going to be thin as fack... Good thing with braze is that it has alot lower melting temp than the parent metal so will work fine, just dont ride it hard. :daumenhoch: If you are in the north west drop it off to me and I will braze it up for you when I get a minute and I wont charge you. :daumenhoch:
-
I heard if you fill the toptube with water and plug it and put it in the freezer it can push the dents out so here we go........

Well after a couple of goes in the freezer and nothing happened i decided to try another method. I drilled a hole in the tube opposite one of the big dents to see if i could tap the dent out from the inside which worked a bit but not enough to do it on all the dents....

-
That looks amazing fella :daumenhoch:, you can always get a chrome one at a later date
-
Thanks
-
that looks sweet...... you could have took it to a body shop, and they may have been able to pull those dents out, with those spot welder rivet thingies and a slide hammer! :daumenhoch:
-
I know yep but i enjoy doing resto bits myself ;)

will this be a rider then ?? i would :daumenhoch:
-
I'm a bit of a chrome addict when it comes to frames
but T/A's look the mutts in white :smitten:
As for what CW bars are on yours I'd definatelt agree with Andy (Delray),, those look like expert 8" rise as opposed to the 9" pro's
I've had 2 expert and 3 pro size sets of CW's and they're easy to tell apart :daumenhoch:
Good luck with the build , so far so very good 8)
-
Looking good 8) :daumenhoch:
-
Yes it`s going to be a rider, i got some cw bars off here the other night i was in such a rush to get them i didn`t ask what size they where i hope they are expert i`ve just pm the guy now to find out....

He says that thay are but someone on here said the knurling wasn`t right so i dont know yet and yes i got ta f&f off here
-
Enjoying this build thread mate - shame you couldn't have it chrome but it looks sweet in white :daumenhoch:
-
Thanks
-
you should be able to tell if they c dubs with nice welds and criss cross knurling on the stem area.
i take it the damage was'nt mentioned to you when you bought the T/A .
bad that is.

Beat me to it Dave
Criss cross knurling = CW's ;)
Those don't look genuine from the upsweep angle from the stem area ( too square )
Mind you they weren't CW money , so no probs there :daumenhoch:

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm a Pro Neck II... I used to gaze at one of them clamping my ladder bars to my DP - sadly stolen.
IMO it looked a lot more 'original' ( or how mine used to look ) when it was stripped but not polished... but if bling is your thing then you nailed it :)
this bike is shaping up very nyce
