Post by: oldtired on March 09, 2011, 01:01 AM
new school cassette hubs go clickerty clickerty  fookin click click,,,  loud as fook ,  :tickedoff:   :uglystupid2: ,  with the old Shimano freewheel you bung a few drops of 10/40 in it and it goes quiet :daumenhoch:  , i've not taken the cassette apart yet , are they just a ratchet and pawl or is there something a bit more tricky in there?   looks like there are just extra pawl's from pics on t net?

The Mongoose one's I took apart the other day were r&p - and lots of crappy little bearings.

Depends on the type of cassette, if You want it quieter add more grease, but add too much and it can slip.

Use suspension fork oil instead of grease, its more seal friendly (if there are sealed bearings involved) Mavic have their own Pawl specific oil, very expensive and no better than fork oil  :daumenhoch:

nice one fella's  had it to bits not tricky at all ,,sealed bearing  so no magnet and an hour searching the floor needed  :daumenhoch:   ;D

got some suspension oil somewhere,  top tip Diggler   :daumenhoch:  its a cheapo hub so bunged a bit of some real gloopy motor oil in it,   i've had for ages its like treacle ,     sorted  nice and quiet,   :daumenhoch:

 ??? ??? ???

Does the seal like to be lubed before a full on bumming sesh   ???

as opposed to a bit of sado stuff for foreplay
