Don't know what's going on with the holes in the frame and forks!
-
Looks to me like a Firebird freesttyler GL plus, i may be wrong.
The holes in the frame and forks is where the brake cables went throught the frame and re appeared near the brakes.
How the hell do you guys find these gems!!!!
-
Yep a GL plus.....very nice and they don't come up too often, nice bars as well :daumenhoch:
-
yep GL proper nice find that :smitten: look forward to seeing that restored :daumenhoch:
-
It's a bit of a miss match of parts, don't know what the bars are, sutour stem, mx brakes, levers ? Wheels? Chrome peeling and shot (could this be powdered over without to much expense?) oh well it's going to be restored, time to empy the pay pal again ( she's gonna freak out) by the way I offered him 40 quid for it and he said ok! :daumenhoch:

To be fair he was an old mate of mine and found out that I had a little old BMX collection, gave me a shout and he was happy to let me have it :4_17_5:, I told him that I would do it justice :LolLolLolLol: is there any way of telling the year, is it a GL plus Ltd edition from around 85/86? its times like this we need firebird steve on here :daumenhoch:
-
dont you worry pal steve will comment sooon enough :LolLolLolLol: £40 bloody quid rear cal worth that at least alone :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
-
looks like you picked up a bargain, brakes alone worth the £40 :daumenhoch:
Bars are redline forklifter freestyle bars maybe?
I love a good survivor shed find me :daumenhoch:
-
Haha, I am not in it for a profit, I wanted to do an old school freestyler to go with my restored 84 Curtis Pro, was looking for a haro master / sport but too much wonga :'(, now this little baby has come along, I will have two of the best :Great_Britain: made frame sets from BITD :daumenhoch:
-
you can say that again --- and i'd also say fookin bingo  Lets make that beauty beautifiul ! :daumenhoch:
-
 sweet score, cant wait till i get a gl+ in my collection. besides gt the dp's are the second favorite bikes on my list now :smitten:
and ed209 if you read this gl+ please :LolLolLolLol: :P
-
Stripped it down today, no cracks or bends :daumenhoch: but am I missing something, I can't find a serial number!
-
Serials are usually stamped into the big top tube plate, just above the rear brake hole, 4 numbers generally I think
£40...... (crying now)!!
-
Nothing on the plate, just a laser cut dp !!!
-
What a bargain - thats gonna be a lovely resto job that
The frame number should be just above the hole for the rear brake... not sure if they had numbers on GLs though... can't remember. My Ltd Ed. has a number on.
Its not a Ltd Ed. because its not Ni-Bronze, so its a chrome GL Plus ... I'd guess at 86/87.
Its a GL Plus because of the angled ends to the rear drop outs, the coaster anchor is on the upper chainstay, the laser cut dp and the holes for the brake cables.

will post up some pics of my brakes routed through the holes :daumenhoch:

I recon they're Bully bars
-
fantastic find fella :daumenhoch:
look forward to seeing your progress with it.love dp's :smitten:
-
Sweet build that Ed, I've spoken to superbike dan today about powdering over the rusty chrome, I think its going to have to be de- chromed as it's flaking in places and to much to flatten :( also I am thinking White and ????? Would like orange or red but parts might be a problem, I know I only got it on Saturday but want to get started :LolLolLolLol: ( got no patience me!)
-
it may not have a frame number which means its an early gl pluss a lot of dp me and brett used to ride never had frame numbers ???,bars look like redline but im no expert on these
-
Maybe an early one then :4_17_5:, been informed that the bars are bully bars but it looks like that have been cut down :-\

Some of the prototypes had no frame numbers. you might find the cable holes in a different position to Eds or the head angle the same as the MK2 DP freestyler (Flint made) there is even the odd Frame that didnt have the Cable holes in them. I believe Retrodan had one of these :daumenhoch: Take a picture of the brake bridge Just above the caliper this is where the serial number should be and the hole positions it will give us more clues. Serial numbers are only up to 4 digits long :daumenhoch:
-
that is a quality find mate, looking forward to seeing it restored :daumenhoch:
-
I had a good look and the brake holes are in the same place as Eds but there is no serial number, can anyone put a year on the frame and forks?
Forks are now stripped and will be off to Superbikedans shortly :4_17_5:
Regards
Jon
-
As the others have said frame number should be near the laser cut dp if there was one. I had one the other year the amount of digits is purely dependent on what the number is. Mine was a three digit.
Don't think I have seen a chrome one of these either, pity it's too far gone.
A cracking find especially for £40 :daumenhoch:
-
Serial number found lurking under some black paint :daumenhoch:

It is an early one from the Flint Factory there is no exact year for these my best guess would be 83 because I had 1043 for Christmas 1983 :daumenhoch: Not sure when the factory started in Wales but I am sure it was late 1982 :daumenhoch: which would make sense
-

It is not Exact as there is no living register that I know of unless firebird has it, I just lived by the factory and new alot of the people that worked there BITD.. the Warrington frames had no serial numbers so it is a good start point. The GL's were made from Mid 1985
