I have the last few bits (just waiting on brake cables now) to add to my 85 to complete it, but the fooking BB cups will not go in! :tickedoff: I've tried hitting with wood, rubber hammer etc.. I don't have a vice otherwise that may have been the first option. Anymore thoughts of how to get these buggers in!
Thanks,
Matt ;)

... bit of grease inside the frame BB and around the cups usually does the trick fella :daumenhoch:

threaded bar and 2 nuts + some washers ie. a bearing press

Also could do with the same thing matey, I'll have one of your new fangled 'tools' if you have one. Saves waking the neighbours with my hammering at 11pm

Don't know what you are building, but the internal BB shell is free of paint isn't it?

Yeah original chrome 85 survivor, fooking mint it is ;)
-
Take the frame and cups to an engineers place, get them to measure them and machine the cups down for a tight friction fit, not worth forcing them in, they will go, but what if they split the shell?, frame fooked.
might cost a tenner, but I would not want to get a big hammer anywhere near 1985 chrome of that value!!!
-
try some different cups as they can vary :daumenhoch:
-
that was exactly what I was gonna say... some used but minty ones for example...
-
Tried 4 types now, all won't go in.... :-\

x2 or just hold it up in a vice and squeeze 'em in, the monkey metal bearing cup will give before the cro-moly frame, unless its trash.

X2, I've got 4 to do and don't wanna chip the paint or worse
-
If the frame had been powder coated that'll be the issue as thats pretty thick compared to wet paint and the cups wouldn't fit ?
