Post by: crazycraig on April 11, 2011, 09:28 AM
I have started work on rebuilding my VDC as i now have all the parts . Its a chrome one and is pretty shot . I was going to have it rechromed but keep hearing of all the horror stories . question is

What other colours did they come in ???? ??

i so very nearly did mine white after seeing that white one, but thought it would be a shame as the chrome was too good.

but thats how i would do it if the steel is beyond a chrome job!

I dont think this is bad boy is beyond in fact the chrome is pretty good apart from peeling on the rear stays ............ I dont fancy a rechrome as most of them turn out shite and no 2 jobs are the same

Dude... if ya have the money, I'd go with chrome all day long as it just looks classy.... a paint job would be a kop out imo.

Do some research into a good chromers, get the job done right and you'll never look back man  :daumenhoch:

I can remember seeing Charlie Reynolds (remember him?) at some indoor race at earls court Bitd ridin a Gorilla.

Him and Andy Ruffell were jumping over this massive wooden table top and Charlie was Table 360'ing it at about 5 foot.

it was white frame with white forks and bars then all chrome and black bits and chrome wheels and tan wall tyres.

It looked fckn mint. Charlie had proper Flow and was a team rider for hotwheels so I'm assuming the gorilla came in white.

Keep the faith.L

you just have to grill it into them like i did that you want a near perfect job, let them know the value of the frame to give them some idea what they are repairing, i and they never mentioned the cost, because it wasnt important, i just wanted as good as they could ever make it, they will then go the extra mile to get it right...

they did then selves proud, and the cost was £100 less than i had in mind....   result!

It'll be worth more in years to come Craig if you keep it OG chrome rather than a re-chrome

All the big collectors in the US are stating this now ,, rechromes , when done well ,, do look good , but aren't original and that counts

obviously , we are talking about rarer more expensive/desirable frames like this as opposed to a Mongoose Californian

Non of my framesets  are rechromed  :-\

You can usually tell too easy

although smaller parts like crank arms usually benefit from a re lick of shiney stuff :daumenhoch:
