Post by: oldskooldayz on April 22, 2011, 11:41 PM

BITD the Redlines were meant to be stronger and look much Better
Alloy cranks 3 piece are lighter apparently.

To me it is Just LOOKS :smitten: :smitten:

OPC used to bend easily when doing pipes or dropping in from heights  The Redlines were and still are probably the best as the splines are minimal and bulky unlike the multi-spline GT cranks that didnt fair too good on the pipes. They were best on the dirt as you could have them marginally set off centre for quick gate releases :daumenhoch:

3 piece defo do look the dogs  :smitten:

just not sure if i really want to buy more cranks when i have perfectly good opc's sitting here
and i dont like the sugino ones i have on the haro at the mo

so i could sell the sugino and buy them new redlines or just save the wonga and use the opc instead

interesting stuff but i defo wont be dropping in off any pipes or doing crazy things on them and thats probably why im wondering if i should spend more at the mo

cheers for that  :daumenhoch:

Personal preference back in the 80's there was a mix of both and I was one of the luckier ones with 3 piece cranks

You might want to consider Sugino CT's

Or redline 401's as they are cromoly unlike the Ally ones that Peter is on about

For a Haro I would go for a one Piece if you cant afford any of these, but CT's are normally available for about £150 for a nice set :daumenhoch:

I just like 3pc as they look the nuts all polished, you can take the arms off for easy moving about or storing and I have them and not OPC  :LolLolLolLol:  :LolLolLolLol:  :LolLolLolLol:

You can pick up some cheap Haro 3pc cranks and rub the H off the arms. They look proper nice when polished. I picked up a set including BB and bearings for £30 and fitted to my mates Torker  :daumenhoch:

They look the nuts with his Blue Sugino ring  :coolsmiley:

His pedals are pants though  ;D He loves 'em but no place for cages in freestyle  ;)

tubular cromo 3 pc are a lot more rigid to ride on, opc tend to flex a bit , with the crank at the bottom if you stand on a opc you will get a bit of sideways flex, , you get very little or none with a tubular 3pc,which is why they are used to race on same goes for new school alloy cranks also they seem to rotate in a better position with respact to the frame , if you get what i mean? sure someone can explain that better,  but if you ride a opc then swap to a 3pc of the same size you can feel the difference , the 3pc just rides better, , had 401's bitd and now got the new twin pinch ones and they are still the best cranks i've owned ,  got a set of wtp which are real nice but twice the weight of the Redlines,  the flex problem wasn't an issue when i was a nipper but i'm six stone heavier now  :LolLolLolLol: and it 's nice to know that the crank aint going to bend or worse break,   of course there is also the asthetic reasons for fitting a opc which on some builds you have to agree with ,  course just mo  :daumenhoch:

OPC.

If you are going to fit 3 PC to an 80s ride, they better be 80s or youre going to look like a fookin dick :daumenhoch:

Keep up the good work, knob splurt ;)

I've had a Tioga, Sugino and Takagi break on me on the pipes but never a Redline, YET!!!  :LolLolLolLol:

Fitted Redline twin pinch to my DP and will see how that holds down the skatepark when I finish it  :daumenhoch:

i was also looking at them lovely profile cranks they also look very nice on some bikes

redlines are my fave of the 3pc set ups i must say though

but im open to suggestions if anyone else has something in the mix that works well if i do go for the 3pc set up again instead

I had an Ally Anlun Aero crank off a SuperFox bitd . It was bomb proof compared 2 one piece cranks which as stated flexed and I bent all sorts . Was an amazing crank considering it was a cheapy bitd  ::) Just found 1 recently after 6 years looking cos they r very rare in the style I had. Its now under resto  ;) Was light aswell  :daumenhoch:
