Just been over to a meeting on site for the new T1 Terminal 1 Skatepark being built just outside Melton Mowbray.
Great to meet with Mark and Rebecca who are funding & running the park, John who is the marketing & events manager and, a 'rather jet lagged fresh from the States' Dave Childs who I instantly had a 'hero' moment with having last met him when I was 15 and he was taking Wicksteed Skatepark APART... total ruler :-)
Anyway... with Rampchild on the designs the park is already looking sick and everyone who came along to the meeting was invited to offer their views on what the park should have in.
With Mark and Rebecca already thinking of expanding it ( before the first cut has even been made ) its going to be a very progressive park... they are hoping to built it inside and out and also try and acquire some land next to the warehouse to build a pump track.
With my Mother-in-laws house around the cornet and space to camp in her garden this is gonna be a great new venue for RAD meets in the summer.
The park website will be up soon showing the park as its built and in the meantime the facebook page has all the current info on.

First designs for the park shown below... aspects of this will no doubt change for the final park but this is the basic layout for the 1st stage indoor bit :

Are they allowed to use that name?
Plans look alright, roof looks a bit low... :-\
Be cool to have somewhere local, bet you can't wait... :daumenhoch:

Alright Betty...
I don't think they are using T1.. its called Terminal 1... my bad.
Yeah man - can't wait for it to be open... didn't think about the roof :) not a problem for Eddie ;D

True that Peter... nearly said hi to him at MK last year but bottled it :crazy2:
He looked a bit embarrassed when I recounted the day I met him at Wicksteed in circa 86 ( I was the only one riding the park and he was outside with no money to get in... so I paid for him and he was FOOKIN AMAZING ... like when someone knows a place so well they own it... Chilly Owned Wicksteed :2gunsfiring_v1: ) but he has a proper passion for building parks ... and bikes from the pictures he showed me of a sweet Trickstar and early Master.
Gonna be down there everyday when they start building

Whats that Gaz ... you want me to give you 'quite large head'? ... only if you pay the petrol money :smitten:
-
i'll be waiting at the top of the half pipe for you >:D
how long is it going to take to getting it up and running?
-
beers, bmx and camping at your inlaws then ED. sweet

Looks good, nice use of space - like the tunnel. I'd add another jump box in the big empty space though - so its more like a trail.

yeah I'm sure that was requested by the new school kids messing with the plans... gonna have a big mini behind the bowl ( on that flat bit ) to do transfers into and I think they were thinking about making more corners on the bowl.

I spoke to chilly last year at mk,top bloke !!! he seemed a bit embarrassed when i said he was our local hero back in the day,he was truley awesome at wicksteed the way he used to get that air out of the 18 footer  he has got some nice bikes too :smitten: and he used to break a few ta's too :-[
-
I remember being afraid for Chili not wearing a helmet when I was 13, he was doing mental airs out of the 18 footer at Wicksteed, we were all there, YES helmets, Haro sliders, full safety gear, and this bloke was ripping 5-8' with some stretch jeans and a sex pistols t-shirt.....
Glad he's involved with this project, but Pleeeeeze.. no overhang!!!
So looking forward to this, mornings at twinlakes, afters at the park!!
-
can't wait for this! in leicestershire aswell....awesome :daumenhoch:

A Ruler on Northants 70s 'crete no doubt.
I got to ride it for a week every year when I stayed with my auntie who lived on Windmill Ave opposite the park... rolling in the 18 footer was the closest thing to heaven that existed in my life

I also went to the meeting for this skatepark to get views across. The warehouse itself is reasonably big, but the roof is not the highest ive seen. The plans look amazing, and it will be a huge boost for the BMX scene in Melton Mowbray. (just what we needed)
The couple who intend to build this park are very nice and love to hear your views in what the park needs. So yeah this skate park will be a huge success in leicestershire and i hope to see new people down there.
Spread the word guys, need as much support as we can get!

Any more news on this? when are they getting going? 8)
-
..and will there be a barbeque area? :)
-
Well the build date was for may, but as you are probably aware it is may... Im going to try get hold of the couple who are building the skatepark and see when they think the build date will actually start
And for the barbeque area? Well there will be a cafe but the skatepark will be on a huge area of land (a old airfield) so i would think that you would be able to bring a "barbeque" up too the park and do your thing.
Cheers, Gilbert..
-
;D was only joking about the BBQ area but that sounds big enough! (Ed normally manages with a small piss-soaked alley next to the boardroom so no issues there :daumenhoch:)
looking forward to this place opening!
-
Is that park really going to fit under that roof? :-\
Will be awesome if it does but it's looking pretty low to me and those plans give the impression of some height; something ain't right :-\.
-
Griff, I've heard that's not all Ed gets up to in pish-soaked alleys bud...
