Since looking on here I've noticed everyone loves a padset on their bike? but bitd wasn't that the first thing we threw away!
-
Depends what they were :daumenhoch: On my DP I always had the pads on the stem amd frame but on my pro burner they got tossed :LolLolLolLol:
-
I s'pose your willingness to chuck 'em depended on your ability to avoid using / needing them! :-[
I like 'em now because they add to the look / feel / nostalgia of the build. :smitten:
That said, Stems should never ever EVER be covered up! :2gunsfiring_v1:

hehe.. Only today I was telling girl mate about pads. She asked why my bike had pads and I said exactly that: back in the day, for about 3 days, everyone thought pads would add protection incase we feel. On the 4th day, we all realised it was shite and promptly burnt them before we were spotted "padded up" and presumed to be a gay-lord (80s speak).
Nearly 30 years later and we all love them because of their retro appeal :)

And to be honest they did nothing to soften the smack of a top tube to the testes, anyways! :10_2_12:

I think it depends on the bike :daumenhoch:
Some of my bikes have had them DP, Haro Master and Skyway Streetbeat but others haven't Reflex Rippers Haro Sport. I think it all depends on the balance of the bike that you are trying to achieve.
Pads are not for everyone but I like them :daumenhoch:
-
Nothing like getting to the age of ya nuts droppin' then gettin' it wrong on the tabletop and landin' on the top bar only to push 'em back up again eh :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:
Thats coz we all threw the pads away :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

i've always thought pads look great on a racer, but not really for a freestyler.

"Gaylord"... Just spat my coffee out! ;-)
We chucked the pads on day 2 as well but for show or full resto they just finish a build off nice for the last £30 to £50 for re-pops.
You can always take them off for riding... ;-D
-
Always had the pads on. I did race though.

Er, no we didn't all chuck them - most people I knew had them, definitely anyone that even occasionally raced.
I can't believe how bothered some of you seem to be about what other people thought ???
I've even got my NS race cruiser padded-up.

We're not bothered but back in the day, for street use, it was considered "gay" to have pads on ya ride ;D especially if it was a Burner or Ammaco ::) I mean, how could you have your m8, or ya "bird", sitting on the bars with a gr8 big pad in the way :2funny: :2funny:
-
pads got thrown straight away in donny lord :2funny: of the gays had em on tho

I can sound a bit serious can't I :LolLolLolLol:
It's all riding bikes innit. Have a good weekend :)

I don't remember ever throwing a set of pads away, all my bikes had them back in the day and all my bikes have them now but then all my bikes are race bikes, same goes for number plates.
-
Does anybody know anybody that makes repro pads as i need a SE bar pad in black and gold in the old school size :-\
-
Yeah but it's a secret :LolLolLolLol:
-
I was never a Gaylord :2funny: And have the shins 2 prove it :daumenhoch: Had them but never had them fitted ::)

I don't like pads, i think they detract from the beauty of the frame, just my opinion though. My brother had a Phaze 1 when we used to race at Surbiton Town track and he had to have a pad specially made for the Z part of the frame otherwise they wouldn't have let him race! Seems a bit silly that they would give that Phaze 1 Frameset away in a raffle but not supply a padset which they were gonna insist that you use :idiot2:

And that's another good reason why scrutineering was such a waste of time, I bet the guy that said "No" worked in OH&S :LolLolLolLol:

The slogan is the exact style and slogan that they used to market it in Oz in the 80s, so to me theyre pretty 8)
