Title: mongoose expert all chromoly?
Post by: theRuler on May 16, 2006, 09:47 AM
i had always thought the expert was main tubes chromo

well i just rec'd an expert frame i bought off the bay in march (from the US, delivered by g-granville on his bike) and the sticker on the toptube says "All tubes chromoly frame"

and the "expert" sticker on the seat tube says chromoly frame too.

so is this one better than the cali? i believe the cali is main tubes chromo.

I thought the same Ruler.

Maybe the US version of the expert was a different build spec to the UK?

Aren't there some scans of the Geese somewhere on this site?

My Expert I got shot of the other week was all tubes chromoly :daumenhoch:

I thought it was the same frame spec as a supergoose but not as high spec parts?

That's bizarre!

My Mongoose Expert which was a late 83 deffo had a main tubes only cro-mo decal on the top tube behind the head tube.
Just looked at the test in BMX Action Sep 83  and that states only the front triangle is cro-mo with hi-ten steel rear triangle.
The expert was the same frame as the Cali but with cheaper parts

Maybe they changed later in 84 ????

i had a all tubes one as well
yet the parts spec was total pants

mind you knowing mongoose if they had a few dozen spare supers they would just
badge them as experts

nosnod you got a csan of that test at all that you could post ?

you're right there. there was no UK expert, it was the grand pricks

and the expert is a chromo frame, and i guess it always was!

so in the pecking order, from worst to best it goes:

cali
expert
supergoose
pro class

??

i think that true for most of the 80's
then around 85 / 86 the cali seems to get full chromo too

i don't have a decent scan of a post 84 catalogue but it appears that way

wonder if they were a bit weak ?

well they look pretty spindly and prone to bendage

but a mate of mine has been riding his 84 cali since 96 (it was mine bitd, then when i sold it, it spent years in someones shed before getting rescued) and his forks hold up to some beatings

I think this is going to turn into another debate like the Diamond Back one recently about whether or not it is full cro-mo!!!

I will scan the BMX Action Sep 83 tonight - prob is whenever I upload scanned magazine pages they seem to resize themselves so you can't quite read them! - any tips??

nosnod
cheers look fwd to that

if you use photobucket go into account options i think and change default max file size
can be up to 1 meg now  :daumenhoch:

with the ones i post up i normally use about 150 dots per inch resolution and resize to get to about less then half a megabyte
readable but not huge
