Title: What's with all the bling?
Post by: punkdSICO on June 03, 2011, 05:37 PM
Im searching for some spoked wheels and Im a little surprised with the frequency/amount of gold wheels that come up.  Personally, gold is my least liked bike accessory colour (although there are some lovely examples of gold-splashed bikes).

So, why are they so many old school gold wheels out there?  Was gold the mid eighties colour to have??

Ta,

Paul

hehe..

I left BMXing in about '86 and only got back into 2 months ago.  One of my many pleasant surprises is to see that Burner’s are loved as much today as they were back in the 80’s

The in thing was a Yellow Skyway on the back and a Gold Araya on the front  :daumenhoch: That was to help lift the front of a Burner into a wheelie as you needed to be Arnie to lift the fooker  :LolLolLolLol:

When you were a 6 stone lanky weakling, it was all that helped  :LolLolLolLol: so all the back Arayas got shoved in the sheds or garages  :daumenhoch:

To get back on topic, I think one of the reasons gold was so popular is, it goes with almost any other colour so very easy to buy in bulk and whack on different models whilst keeping the price down.

Maybe gold is what didn't sell BiTD? I honestly think that the only gold parts I ever had from all my bikes were some hubs.
