Hi. I am thinking of getting a 2008 retro quadangle as pictured below

I have never owned a quadangle before, and have only had experience with building old school bmx's so far. I have tried to get some pics of these built up with old school parts, to see what they look like and have only managed to find a couple shown here:

This was from an old ebay listing and despite the parts being a bit naff, the geometry looks a bit weird as well. Are there differences in the frame length between the older quadangles and the new ones??

This one looks more like it, but dont know if its a new school build or old school.
I guess my question is do these 2008 retro quads look good built up with old school parts and does anyone have some links of these newer ones built up??
Also seat post size states 25.5, so where do you get them from??
Am I best just to stick with old school frames??

Heres my pub bike, 2009 complete, but i've out the changed wheels, bars, pedals tyres, chainring/spider, and seat/post since new.

To be honest, i'm looking forward to falling off it so I can justify a re paint, when it'll go all white/ black, more old school look.
I cant justify the spend on a real one, this looks quite similar, and is a bit more `adult sized', so i'm happy with it.
Mine came from CRC for £280 complete (thats less than half the list price) earlier this year, which I thought was a bargain

For riding - get the New Skool.
For showing - get the Old Skool.

this one was old schooled on the blackpool berm, took the lugs off and put on DC's and levers, swapped the cranks etc, looked the nuts

:) Seatpost is 25.4mm and is the standard new school post size avail from any BMX shop.Poss too flexy for serious riding but just my view.I just don`t get why people chop the brake lugs off as new school brakes work much better(and brake block alignment can be a pain.) It`ll be reducer cups on the headtube next and running them with shafted stems & 1" forks :daumenhoch:

This is my retro Quadangle.... with no oldschool parts at all. Not all newschool has to look newschool, it all depends on the work you put in to make it look different.

Some great examples there guys. The chrome and blue is lovely and still has that ols school look as well as the blue and gold one pictured above. The red black and gold one is very nice but doesn't look old school enogh for me :)
I reckon I am definatly going to get one. Alans have them in, but only the tan ones left with blue forks. Might be worth stripping it and sending it to superbike dan, what do you guys think??
I am thinking of blue frame, forks and bars, everything else white, with white tuffs?

So, does anyone know if the geometry is different between the quadangles in the 80's and the ones reissued in 2008? The new ones seem slightly longer to me :daumenhoch:

The reissue Quads are long compared with the OS Quads, modern lengths and angles

I don't know about geometry or sizes i just know what looks good and to me thats what matter more.

Nice one AKGOFF that really helps. Its got to be the 1983 one for me, looks a stunner. Just a shame that that will probably be the most expensive :'( Looks like I will be sticking to old skool after all. Thanks ;)

Thats what has sparked this thread off, seeing them on there for 150 pounds. I thought if there wasn't much difference, I would definatly go for it, but now I am not sure.
I love the old school, thats my problem :)

I reckon both of the above, and the fact that you get a complete (albeit in red/gold/black, still not a good combo!) for £280!!
The price was my main reason for getting mine, and the fact that it was the first step in quickly getting a rider again after the `apres Christmas' shed emptying session by the Leicester low life!
I still prefer my 2004, non retro 4130 quad, (In my bikes) but will like the red one better when it loses the redness and the `asian wedding' shade of gold (no disrespect to indian gold, great in its place, but it aint on a quad!).
It will look more `old school' when I can justify it!!

They have run out of them ones. Only the tan frame and blue forks available from them now :daumenhoch:

the '07s in baby blue with chrome forks were much much nicer that the 08's in monkey shit brown............

I've got the 2009 Quad in Red and I ride it at the track with no worries...I think its great.
Like the guys said earlier, the geometry is different on the new ones, which I prefer as I don't break my knees off when I ride it!
I dont have any issues with it being flexy (but I'm not all that heavy so it might be different for others). I wasnt that fussed with the red and gold but I've got used to it now and I quite like it.
The old ones were made from Reynolds 501 were'nt they? whereas the new ones are Chr-mo.. no probs either way.
You need to ask what you want it for as I had an original Ripper and DB Silver Streak which I didnt enjoy riding as they felt too small for me, I got a new Ripper with a longer top tube (same as 2009 Quad I think) and it was much better...however, the old ones look great...so what do you want it to do? Ride or be looked at?
Either way, you will still be buying a nice bike. :daumenhoch:

FWIW I had a chrome Quad in about 87. Beautiful frame but way too short for me and I sold it about a week later.
