i have a nos mongoose 28tpi bottom bracket , but as been left in my loft for years and has some marks on it. i have tried a wire brush to remove them but no good :'( can they be polished or sending off to be chromed the better option.

Is it peeled chrome or is it pitting in the steel? I would try wet and dry but a picture might be helpful to make an informed decision :daumenhoch:

Original finish was zinc.
You can have them re- zinc plated you can also have them chrome plated. It sounds like your zinc has gone south.
This is how they come out chromed.
