Thats proper, really nice. Lovin the chainring 8)
-
Thats great, very nice. I dont think Ive seen another mk1 dirtbike other than mine, and mine is totally different! haha.
What is the frame number on your one? can you get a pic of where the seat stays meet the seat tube?
-
cheers dark diggler - wanted something different chainring style, this one has done the job perfectly, nice little oddity, also i love your avatar!
S&Malex - thanks! had this in the attic for about a year, bought it complete from the states, the seatstays are much thinner than any other dirtbike ive seen, granted the only ones ive seen in person are later than this one

Yeah, the mk1 stays were 3/8" and the mk2 went up to 9/16", or something. (The same as the mk1 and mk3 Holmes).
My mk1 dirtbike has got no headtube gusset below the downtube and both the rear braces are tubes, not plates. Its also got a totally different frame number to the normal SMDXXXX. Its "B&MD 11900112". I got mine in March 1991 if that helps date yours

oh god yes, that is perfect. Those tyres!!! My favourite dirt tyre from that era - GT and Ritchey Megabites rule!
-
Awesome... love it... :4_17_5:
Loose a couple of links out the chain though... :daumenhoch:
*edit* Keep coming back for another look.... :smitten:

-
That's real nice :daumenhoch: how long's the back end set up like that, must be 16"?!
-
mines got a flat brake bridge and a tube behind the BB shell.
-

Is your's a Mk2? Most of the mk2s were like that.
-
i thought it was a mk 1,its got the hand drawn decals on the frame and forks.it has
the small redline type gussets though so i guess its an early mk 2.
-
i guess its an early mk 2.
Whats the frame number and I'll try and give you an idea of age.
Some of the Mk1 dirtbikes had the small redline type gusset, some didn’t. Most Mk2 Dirtbikes had the gusset but some didn’t. The tube/plate stay-brace changed a few times on both models. The Main thing that defines a Mk1 or Mk2 dirtbike is the size of the rear stays; Mk2s used larger diameter tubing. Its easiest to see it were they meet the seat tube, cos the Mk2’s overlap.

Cool ride Tom... :daumenhoch:

That's my old frame. It's an early B&E made Dirtbike. It has a higher stand over height and 5/8" stays. I bought it from the original owner who bought it in early 1992. So I assumed it was a 1991, by the decals and the second style Holmes fork.
When I sold it to thecaptain...

If you had asked me, Id have said it was a later 91/92 because of the frame number

bumpin' this thread for info...
Does anyone know what exact year these "S&M DIRT BIKE" frame stickers are from?
-
1990?
-
1990?
That's what I'd like to confirm. I've seen these Dirtbikes called 90, 91, and 1992's.
I'm hoping to find hard evidence, maybe ads, mag photos,...any confirmation. :)
-
Earlier ones all seemed to have the smaller S&M Dirtbike decals on the downtube, i'm no expert, just going off ones i've seen... :-\
Your blog would have been where i'd suggest looking.... :LolLolLolLol:
Alex might know?

That is a killer DB Captain, not to threadjack yet i have a similar frame (MK2) with a flat chainstay bridge and sandwiched drops and a serial SMD 33XX yet the serial is on the right side drop as opposed to yours on the left.
Any opinions as to why the different sides for the serial to be on?
-
Serial numbers are usually on the right dropout
I've had one with it on the left....

The others i've had it's been on the right, some didn't have gussets, must have been down to whoever put it together... :-\
