Wanted one so badly as kid and parents couldnt afford one. Got back into bmx as an adult and still couldnt afford one
So got the best copy out there and built one anyway
I give you my fake
Haro freestyler - the ultimate budget build
No show ponies here of course, just hardcore riders, hour spent cleaning the parts tops, chrome shot on pretty much all of it, but hey who cares, I dont
Parts laid out, couple of bar choices, redlines and skyways, the skyway idea hasnt quite panned out like i'd hoped, but i have an idea, i'll out line that later
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/aa130/CUINHELLJAYMZ/Snapbucket/4272a153-orig.jpg)
Finger tight build up to get a feel of what its going to look like

Spec so far
Haro freestyler frame copy
Forks by something itallian sounding company
Blue sealed bearing tuffs
Blue anno 1020 copies
win blue anno stem
redline bars
se 2 piece grips
tuff neck seat clamp used as locknut [did anyone else do this bitd??]
Mirage power disc
Suntour 44t
Bolts generously donated by Al :daumenhoch:
Parts to still arrive
Blue tech lV levers [if spen wasnt so sexy I'd be starting a thread outing him as a bad seller and poster soon!!!!] :smitten:
Blue anno seatclamp [Jase you're slacking mate]
Green DC cables
pair of amber wall xposure daves 1.75
2 pairs of clear brake blocks
Decals donted by matt :daumenhoch:
Back to the skyway bars, an idea has formulated to aquire another set of forks and colour them orange, then for a change of clothes I can have an orange front end for a change, as i love those bars and am determined to use them
And so far the build is on target for a finishing price of a smidge over £200, now that im pretty proud of
Will get some better phots when its finished and out at the skate park for a photoshoot
-
Go on J, nice so far bud love what you do, mental but I love it :daumenhoch:
-
Looking great James, well done! :4_17_5:
-
That would be the DC Tech 4 levers I finally posted yesterday buddy...... which of course you will get around to paying me for one day soon, or I can start a thread about you too ya smart-arse :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
Love this bike buddy - I've had one myself for a long time, ridden it off everything and fractured my skull in 6 places doing so :idiot2:
Get the decals sorted, slap a pair of the narrower Dave (I think) tyres on it and......
......get it ridden bud - nobody can tell when it's flying past them  >:D

Top bike for £200 mate, well done :daumenhoch:
-
Ha Ha. I await the thread!! :P Oh and cheques in the post loverboy ;)
By mid next week, she'll be ready for her first outing to the skate park, top tube seems nice and short so the old 180's should come easily on her. Hoping the creation meet is still on as that would be a fantastic outing for it, and i could get the prowler on the ramps too
-
Cheers Snav. I just wish I had the wallet to keep up with my passion. I'll slowly upgrade the copy parts on this with time to come, but for know she's all good, I have the pair now an OS race and an OS fresestyle so pretty content for now [he says]
-

ha ha had you fooled on faceache eh? :D

Gonna be a nice little ride that Jaymz, great work so far dude :daumenhoch:
-
RIDE LIKE THE WIND :D
-
What you havnt mentied mate is that this is such a replica that it's even got the cut out under the gusset at the front that makes it a bang on a gen 1 replica and not gen 2 and has the coaster break mount as well
So how's about that then :daumenhoch:
-
Nice work Jay :daumenhoch:
It will make a cool rider 8)
-
Wow Jaymz this is gunner look a stunner when decaled and tyres fitted :smitten: especially when you can throw it around like its a bitd job well done :daumenhoch:

plus farah trouser like you just got out out of school man ! still get them from greens,, ;D iv got two pair for bests.. looking good man :daumenhoch:
:D Im short enough to still fit in proper school trousers, my lads only 10 and hes 5'4" only and inch shorter than me and his legs are longer, I'll borrow a pair of his, could even wear the legendary BMX jumper I wore on the blackpool meet
-
going to look tidy when its finished, nice1 :daumenhoch:
-
99% there and been out on a maiden voyage already to get the kids to school, which was great, but flawed by two things. 1. I'd forgotten to tighten the seatguts and 2. Didnt get to ride back as my daughter stole it and rode it home!!
Updates since last pics:
Pair of Xposure Daves now fitted
Locknut now added [and home made bodgit headnuts after some frustrating long steerer issues]
Green DC cable added to rear mated to temp tech 3 lever [craftily stolen of daughters bike]
Also just to keep this bitsa build on the mix up. I'm rocking some new school xposure clear pads with green centres, and got a set of orange centred ones for the front, these things stick to tuffs like fooking superglue, I mean hardcore stoppage. And on the first outing of heavy breaking to get them to bed in, there is zero marking to the tuffs. Very impressed and couldnt recommend highly enough for a rider, they come in orange, green, blue and yellow centres
jobs still to do
Fit the tech IV's when they arrive
Put on front caliper
add the decals

For a rider, i dont personally think there's any other choice, they are fantastically sticky and pretty heardwearing
Going to look out for an anno blue chainring as the suntour is sweet, but just needs something to break up the chrome a little more
-
Check my for sale thread again bud, there's a blue chainring in the mix somewhere.
Oh, the pads wouldn't have fitted a twin top tube btw bud, so no loss....

wouldnt they? oh well thats cool then, no loss as you say.
Bargain basement build says yours is way too nice for my dirty street rider and if i buy it I will just destroy it and thats another part gone forever. I hestitated ealier as i tore the NOS packaging off the DC cables, then i though fook it
-
Bloody Hell J that is sweet, me wants one, what f+f do I need to make one of these? :4_17_5:
-
then i though fook it
Quality - I chucked the box away to a NOS Mongoose Cali a couple of years ago that I imported from the US - Jonnygoose didn't talk to me for a week :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
-
nice one Jay, coming along very nicely :daumenhoch:
good to know you found something that works on tuffs too :daumenhoch:
my new-style tuff pads are a bit rubbish so went for clear Rad pads from stodgy - they're still at hutchman's house but hopefully I'll have similar success with em and I can finally try that endo!
-

1983 Haro Freestyler Gen 1 - is what its an exact copy of. should be able to find one fella, but i will add, they are very short on TT side. Im a fooking munchkin so suits me nice
then i though fook it

Brilliant. I'd do the same thing tbh. I will probably live to regret all the nos parts ive trashed in the last 12 months, but fook it, im having now!!!
-
Great build, Jay. Love the budget, too. :daumenhoch:
Cheers foir the heads up on some pads that will actually stop a pair of tuffs; where did you score them, mate?

One last piece remaining the decals
-
Simply respect on this budget build looking great! 8)
-
Great build Jaymz a credit to you mate :4_17_5:
-
Im pleased, its crept a little over initial budget now, somewhere in the region of £260 now, still bang tidy value
-
coooolio ................ that's a gen1 replica 8) . Can't wait to see it fully dressed, if it turns out well and looks well genuine, I'd keep one eye open for some *cheap* blue alloy tuffs dusty stylieeeee ^"^ :D
:daumenhoch:
naah, come to think of it, those would have course look nice, but i believe they would take away the ease factor, and the current tuffs willl fade to the right shade anyway ....as long as the ..ehm.. gen will be sufficiently ridden in the sun ;) .... some cool kaps perhaps..
-
New pedals on, going to take a couple of snaps in the garden once the mini storm is over.
and the decals are gen2 [printed onto white] which are going to be painstakingly cut out and applied to make a chrome gen 2 stylee custom. I have allergies to doing anything correctly and like to keep it mixed up
-
Pedals on and some custom decals to jazz up the boring seatpost and a couple of haro chevrons on the redline bars for a bit of colour

Yet again shunning all convention, and not playing by the rules, dammit im never conforming the fake gen1 is now sporting gen 2 master decals. YEAH BABY mixing it up big time!!!!! I fooking love this bike. i love every bit about it, the non matching headset cups, the dodgy headset, the home made grub screw in the cheap ass headlock, the fact Ive had to use a twin torq seat clamp because the seatpost tube is too short. Its rusty, because as a kid i wouldve so left it out in the rain It really has turned out, just as it wouldve done bitd if id owned it, built from bits of other bikes, bit ive gotten off mates, its been a dream build,
A few thanks and a spec
frame forks bars other sundries - Joe oldschooldayz - cheers mate for getting the dream started
Tech lV levers - Spen you had them for sale at just the right time you star
Shimano SX Pedals - Pete [iirc] nice one fella, only person out there with blue pedals, and i got there 1st, woo hoo
Win Stem - snav - this stem is so sweet, it may not be high end, but it looks the nuts
Grips - You know who you are and i cant remember who it was lol
loads of other bits and bobs from other forums
and finally my lovely half for the tuffs
enjoy the show

Jaymz, I think your enthusiasm (spelling) is rubbing off on me fella, I love the fact you dont conform to the rules, build bike to be ridden then ride the absolute shit out of them.
Great work on this one fella, looks the business :daumenhoch:
Ps. So wots next ???

I dont know whats next. It'll be a while as have to move house and still dont know where we are going to end up. Im quite fancying a mid school build as that will complete the set of bikes from all the eras
-
although im wondering whether my cainring has the right offset to fit
Bugger - just looked at this Jaymz, and you're right. You need a 110mm BCD to fit the SR crankset and yours is a 130mm BCD.
Put an add up to swap it or a wanted add as you can sell your opc, BB and powerdisc to pay for a lot of the 3pc upgrade fella :daumenhoch:
Gutted as I've just sold a 110mm BCD on a dual-sized spider, so we could have swapped them over buddy..... :-\
Anyway, this SR needs a bit of spit & polish mate, so you may want to do that before you fit it...... yeah, right. Like fook you will!
-
What is this word you use 'polish' its a country thats empty isnt it as all the polish are over here
-
Looks good. :daumenhoch: Did you mean to put the fork decals on upside down though?
-

funny story there !!! had the bike upside down while putting them on, therefore confusion ensued!!!
