Title: polishing pedal cages
Post by: Gish on July 09, 2011, 06:56 PM: i have just got some black suntour xc II pedal cages in black which are scuffed & worn so i am planning on getting them polished up. so just wondering whats the best way to do this as i have never polished before so it will be my first time at it ::)

any info would be grateful ;)

finally giving the go over with autosol :daumenhoch:

the ends of mine wasnt too bad so i wanted to keep the stamping. if they are really bad i would use a file to tidy them up a bit and then the wet and dry and polish. you could always use a powertool which would be quicker and would get a more mirror polished look

they are alloy so fairly soft. i got some end decals in black on clear for mine off del. il sent you a pic next week to show you

Post by: markyp on July 09, 2011, 08:51 PM: ive polished a set of xc11's and a set of mp1000's,the mp1000's were well beat up on the ends but plenty of rubbing with the wet and dry brought them back as good as new and i didnt loose any of the stamping.you gotta go pretty hard at it to lose any stamping i find :daumenhoch:

Post by: brummie on July 09, 2011, 08:57 PM: i didnt want a mirror finish, this is more of a brushed finish which is easier to achieve by hand polishing instead of machine polishing

mark, were they polished up with a bench grinder/polisher or attachments that go into a drill :idiot2:

Post by: markyp on July 13, 2011, 08:35 PM: no mate,i did it all by hand,i just worked thru the wet and dry grades then finished with autosol.its an absolute peice of pesh,you cant go wrong,as soon as the wet and dry hits it it starts to look better instantly,if i can do it then anybody can :daumenhoch:

those mp1000 took me about 3 hours.did you work your way thru the grades??if you did then they will turn out fine finishing with a bit of autosol :daumenhoch:

Post by: BENDYCAT ELEVENTEEN on July 13, 2011, 08:52 PM: don't use to harsh a grade wet and dry paper as it can some times put more marks into it and then you just have to get them out - elbow grease and time will sort them out - try peek for a mirror finsh (i find it's smoother than autosol)

Post by: Gish on July 13, 2011, 09:42 PM: my pedals were just as bad as yours mark so i started off using grade 120, then 180 & finished off woth grade 240 or do i still need to go finer iwth the grade to get a mirror finish :idiot2:
