As some of you will know, i got a rather tatty Hutch trickstar 2 recently of the bay for a happy price ;)
Just fished it out its CAP bath and thought i would start my first resto thread so here goes...
A sorry state

Preparing the bath

Fill as much free space as possible to save on CAP usage

Looks like it worked

Couldn't resist throwing some old wheels on it to see how it sits

It's is going to need a major makeover, two welds near both rear dropouts and one on the top tube a testament to a tough life.
The welds are not terrible and it's is pretty straight but i may get my steel worker pal to give them the once over.
Really looking forward to getting stuck into this build, i intend to take my time with it and get it just right as it wont be going anywhere when its done. :daumenhoch:
Stil open for suggestions on colour schemes :)

might have to give my rider frame a quick bath, the results look good with little effort, nice one
-
Very little effort! Really tough spots sometimes need a quick scrub with a toothbrush but apart from that its dead easy. Totaly safe too, no gloves, gas mask or goggles needed. You could drink the stuff! ;D

Ok so actually what is it, i thought it was an acid bath

Ok so actually what is it, i thought it was an acid bath
x2
-
It is an acid bath, citric acid. Most pop and fruit drinks have it in as well as loads of foodstuffs. Works in exactly the same way lemon juice would have done all those years ago ;)
-
ah, i thought it was the oxycylic or whatever its called
-
cool look like my old one i sold a few year back that had the same ie hutch stamp on top had been polish through and dropout back`s had been repaired
-
Looks twenty times better :daumenhoch: .
How much Youngs used & how long submerged ? ...

I used the seven tubs in the pic which are 50g each. It turned out to be a bit on the weak side so i left it in there for around 60 hours. I recon another 3 tubs would have done the trick but i had cleared out my local wilkinsons and couldn't be bothered to wait to get some of the bay ( which is a bit cheaper )
The great thing is, if you have got some way of storing the solution you can use it again and again. Not very practical for a paddling pools worth but a small bowl full for cranks and what not would be worth keeping :daumenhoch:

That has come up quite well :daumenhoch:

Great idea in using a kids pool.. :D
-
and you can wee in it ;D

Any progress with this build?
