Hmmm I had thought about gold plating a whole frame but concluded it would be too expensive hence the foil idea. I'm going to a platers and powder coaters on Tuesday for my trickstar 2 so will ask them for a price  :coolsmiley:

Anyway back on topic

Yes I think you should go for it, perhaps try doing a portion of seatpost first to see what it adheres like, or maybe a set of forks. I did wonder a while ago whether gold leaf would be of any use on a bike build, and maybe you could guinea pig it for us

You can only get away with plateing 1 bike and thats Woody Itsons Gold Trickstar, everything else would be tacky in my opinion. However, providing i can get a suitable person to laquer it, i am going to do my Mini Torker in Polished Copper Plating.

gold leafing is a very different effect Ive been a picture framer for 20 years and use it quite a bit.
gold leaf looks great but its not very hard wearing so you couldn't ride it.
its quite easy to do on surfaces like a bike though, i once did a banana and it looked amazing and it seemed to stay fresh for ages  :LolLolLolLol:
ill try and find a photo for you!

Cool. Yeah i thought gold leaf would be a bit different, it has a nice texture to it. Do you know how well it would take laquer winnet93? I would have thought it would coat well and enough coats should keep the wear to i minimum. I dont do carpet queens, i gotta ride em  :)

Gold plating or gold leaf ?

and then I read what frameset it wa going to be applied to  :crazy2:

a Trickstar II  :P

That's two prime examples of ultimate  bad taste

I hope a snake post Elina ul is going on it to top it off  :daumenhoch:

 :LolLolLolLol:

It's a noooooo from me sorry  :-\  ;D

although on a positive note, if you wrapped it on gold leaf it'll double the strength in a Trickstar II  ;D

;D too bloody right. My trickstar has more welds than the titanic and probably just as safe at the moment.

The poll isnt looking too favorable for the gold leaf at the mo. I'm not big on gold myself but was wondering whether the leaf may be a bit less blingy. :D

What about blue and orange gulf racing colours then guys?
