Title: Just pondering but why are Forks spelt with s at the end?

But if it was 1, it wouldn't be a fork.

What about a garden fork or a fork you eat with, they have 3?

But sheep is always sheep. The word Fork seems to have acquired and s when referring to a bike and nothing else, that's what I am puzzled about. :D
