Title: M-ZONE SPINNER
Post by: deeman on August 08, 2011, 11:44 PM
heres a tricky one,or maybe not!alot of people remember the old Mud Machine shop in croydon right?it then turned into M-Zone and moved to carnaby street, well about the time the acs rotor came out,M-Zone bought out their own version which was cheaper as far as i remember, but also very slimline and slick compared with the acs job.does anyone remember these early spinners and/or know where i can get hold of one?

its definitely not a fishbone, have seen a pic now.it was produced by mud machine or m-zone themselves.cant remember if they had changed the name before they released the spinner.it had a very small diameter, very slim and slick and was powdercoated with a choice of colours(i had a white one)but as far as i remember it was available in all the fluoros too.only available from mud machine/m-zone though.i cant have been the only one who had one of these??!!

do remember them mate ,think they only made them for a short while ,then the oddy gyro came out -which was the only spinner that worked.
might see if i can find a pic of the m-zone 1 in an old action bike mag

O.k ..here is a crap drawing showing the difference between the m zone spinner and regular rotors. It really was beautiful simplicity. The pic on left is rotor from above. the pic on right is m zone from above...you will see why it is so much more efficient....surprised it never really was popular.... The drawing below is how I remember the m zone from memory! maybe it will jog someone elses!

As soon as I saw your drawing I thought, I've seen that before!

I'm wondering if the shop on carnaby street rebadged or bought in these as generic rotors and used their own packaging/decals. I know these as California freespin rotors. I don't have one yet but they did come in various powder coating colours as you remembered. Could be a massive coincidence but I think these are what you had  :daumenhoch:

Do you know when they came out Clint? I can remember the Rotor had only been out a very Spen while...like months...before they came out with this so definitely 85 I would have thought. It certainly looks like what I had!!!  :daumenhoch:

edit yup, even remember the coloured headset cup too. It wasn't supplied with any packaging though, just a small cardboard box, so you may be right...they may have bought them in. Is it likely you will be able to find some? Where are the images from? The white or green would do me!  :daumenhoch:

mzone advertised them as huntington beach spinners in white, neon blue or red. think you may be onto something with the california freespin rotor.
