Time for the underdog budget bikes to have a bash!

My first entry........Game for a laugh!

May 1983 Falcon Pro Zeta
Original condition survivor bike,
Ridden for 3 weeks then stored in a garage for 28 years! (Genuine story, bought from original owner!)
Factory condition with all original grips, cables, pads, tyres etc etc
Paint still A1,
Decals in great condition.

It is in amazing condition for a survivor, a great entry level BMX back in the '80's.

This bike means alot to me as this model was the first BMX I ever owned back when I was 12.

and I said I'd only have one BMX...  ;D

here's bike #3, built at MK on the Saturday and the BMX I had as a teenager  :smitten:
while not the exact spec I had BITD it's close enough to get the memories flowing and will never be sold
I plan to give it a bit of a polish at some point but for now it's staying survivor-style, complete with the original scruffy decals  :daumenhoch:

MT Racing Silverfox F&F - cheers Si  :daumenhoch:
MT seat and Renthal post (the post was de-ano'd 'in-situ' as the fooker wasn't coming out for anyone  ;D)
MX 900 copy calipers donated by hutchman (& refurbed all by myself - oven pride is the bolux)
Araya copy rims and hubs donated by uncle spen - built up by brettypeeps once I'd given em a bit of a clean  :daumenhoch:
Suntour copy stem donated by Jaymz
DC tech 3 levers
Tuf Neck-style clamp donated by rob pickle
bargain Win V-bars from Jai on the sunday  :daumenhoch: (the first pic I nicked off clean's post shows the bars that I had first, but were a bit too swept back)
Ame tri grips
NOS Victor DX pedals
Cromo OPC, with NOS Tioga spider
Tuf Neck ring
KMC stainless chain
Beartrap headset and Tioga sealed-tech BB
1.75 Comp 3 repops
oh yes and the rear brake blocks came from the lovely pete quad

Big thanks to all the radsters that have contributed to this build, especially Hootski and Spen for all your help at the fixit tent helping to throw this together in time for the lake ride, also to Brett the master wheel builder and Hutchman for the very non health & safety dremel-work  ;D (and Dordy for the expert valve/tyre label alignment  ;))

cheers

1979 Mongoose - as usual, with a twist :coolsmiley:

Mint f&f re-done is copper-cloured paint (by Yannick, the very man who posted above!), with a twist of how it would have looked if I'd have still been riding it :uglystupid2:

MX thou's, Kashi, Tuff Neck, Suntour, Araya 7X's. Finished it at MK but been waiting for a sunny day to try and get a pic good enough to show just how wicked this paint job is :smitten:

My first BOTM entry, My CW Phaze 1 Cruiser Replica:  In 1983 or 1984 CW made the Z frame as a goof for a trade show. The response was so great they decided to produce a limited number.  The 24" is rare.  Four of these Repro 24” Phaze 1 frames were built in 2006.  They're based on a Revco 24" frame, Revco being CW's sister company.  With modern tubing and welds, this bike is touted as quite a bit stronger than the original.

Post by: Spen69 on September 07, 2011, 09:50 AM
Well this has been a really tough one for me as you all know why. I tried to think what Si Cupid would have voted for, and have done so based on the following logic.

Megga expensive builds were never his thing, so that knocks out the Hutch and to an extent the CW and Carlos' stunning ProClass Cruiser. The obvious choice of that absolutely stunning GT in black chrome would also fall into this trap, although I think he would have kept coming back to it and had to toss a coin eventually, as it is truely beautiful and Si had a massive soft spot for GT's as I think you all know.

The Falcon Pro Zeta, Paul's Race Inc, John's Silverfox and Johnygoose's Supergoose just ooze BMX how it started and one of them would have had my vote normally, but like I siad, this is not my vote this one time. Si loved the colour of my Goose but he was ripping me about the painted rims and mid-school street tyres, so that deffo wouldn't have been his choice.

Phil's Streetbeat and Steve's Ripper are both iconic-looking freestyle bikes and I think Si would have liked Steve's twist with the Maxi Cross cranks - who BITD didn't want a Ripper with Tuffs eh?

But I think ultimately Si would have been torn between the Redline ST20 and DTL's Hot Heart myself, and he would have struggled to vote for one of them or the black-chrome GT. From the description of the resto efforts I'm gonna plump for the white Hot Heart as it looks great, even with those gay pads on it! The GT should win, but the underdog should always have a chance.

Guys, the builds this month were truely worthy of my friend's vote, and many thanks to the Mods on here for remembering Simon this way as I know he'll be missed something terrible next year at MK and by his family and friends in the year to come and beyond.

RIP Simon :daumenhoch:

PS - If I can have another vote mods, it would be Carl's ProClass cruiser, even with the gay blue tyres as it was the bike at MK I wanted to take home the most........

Hey Boys...thanks for all the kind words on my GT...I am a TOTAL Mongoose guy as most of you know...but every now and then I like to build up bikes that I have admired over the years.  I am really happy how that Black Chrome GT turned out...I never thought I would find the matching bars and seat post...because it was hard enough finding the frame and fork set.
It is always a pleasure sharing these BMX treasures with everyone...they are there and being well taken care of.  No worries...I have a few more months to knock your socks off with some kind of Mongoose build...and I have a real stunner in the works...!!

All the best.

~Tom
