Right where do i start with this oddity... :-\
I picked this up on fleabay last week and have just taken it out of its package to investigate on my investment.WOW was my first thought...it is totally as new and unassembled.
I have lightly put a few bits on to give you lot a idea but really want a few hours to clean and put together properly
It is built in italy and looks to be aimed at the french and italian market. It is branded Rapido and its model is black shadow.
On the side of the box it states it is the Galaxy competition- raggi range if that means anything ^"^
I was told it was in a basement for between 25/30years and on looking at the weinmann type 1020 that are dated 82' i guess its near correct.
Im a bit unsure to what it is but this must of been a fairly high end bike in its day, well in italy that is ;D
If anyone has any ideas to what its about either good or bad or even components wise i would be grateful.
Cheers Neil :daumenhoch:

Can't remember much about how it came about but the rider in the UK magazine adverts for Rapido's was Derby Greyhound racer Shaun Spencer. The ad photo was taken on the table top of the greyhound stadium track. Bike looks an amazing rare find. :daumenhoch:

You wouldnt by anychance have that image in a mag?
-
sorry no, i dont have any of the old magazines left, i did see a scan with the advert in somewhere online recently though. Will be from around 83 i reckon and in BMX Action Bike. I think Shaun has a Yellow raceshirt with rapido written accross it and a black full face (very motorbike like) helmet, Nolan i think? I'm sure someone on here will be able to find it. As i remember, he got to keep the helmet as payment for the advert. TBH it may well of been my dad that took the photo as he took thousands for the club over the years.

The bike was found in the stock room of the ebay sellers fathers motorbike shop if that makes any sense ::) I was told it had been hidden away there for many years. That was his words :smiley6600:

Hi Phil
Nice to see another of these oddities floating about :daumenhoch:
I too have mine sort of for sale but im also unsure to its value :-\
The best offer ive had to date is £200 for the rim and tyre combo which is a great offer but dont really want to break it.
In what region would you be thinking?
Neil
-
Hi Neil,
I looked to find any info on these bikes a while back and couldnt find anything,so it was nice to see yours appear. :)
Mine has a few chips here and there, but is still new and never been used, its under offer at the moment for £200 for the full bike.
cheers,Phil.

I bought mine for a steal but on looking at it...breaking it would be my best option....£200 is a gift as the yanks are starting to go bonkers over these rims.
Its a shame as some of the parts on these are superb quality except the frame :LolLolLolLol:

£200 is not a bad offer for the wheelset including tyres, the Ambrosio rims you have are Starlights which are not quite as sought after as the Ambrosio Durex rims, now they are mega rare :smitten:
Adam
-
On looking at it adam i should take the money but feel it to be a shame to break.
Maybe another 100 quid for the rest of the bits....is it worth the chew :-\
On that note im tempted to use some of the components on a build i have in mind :daumenhoch:
Well thats if i finish the load im on with ;D
Neil
-
It is a shame to break one, i wont be doing that. Somebody can buy it and break it if they want. ::)
My Rapido is now up for grabs, first with £220. I've banged it on ebay too.
Good luck with your builds neil, the last one i'm doing is a skyway streetscene. ???
Cheers.
