Title: Hubs
Post by: Munnyella on September 06, 2011, 07:58 PM
I am putting some wheels together for my Haro Mirra 540 (cheers again twobobrob), I know its 2000ish, so isn't probably `proper' mid school, but by christ, its heavy enough, so here its staying!!!.

I have some BFR rims (36h) which are heavy enough, and only cost 99p, so they are going on this budget build.

But what hubs, I want shiney, probably heavy, but 36h, were there any around in the 90's with 36 holes?

I don't really want to go for suzue/shimmy. 10mm or 14 are good on this bike.

Ideas please gents

MM

2000ish so still midschool  :daumenhoch:

There's quite a few hubs you could get - Primo SOB's, Prolites (think BMXCty still have these), Seventies hubs, Demolitions etc :)

Mmmm, prolites, have a pair of sealed 36h 14mm left/right drive ones on my new school ride, that'd solve a problem and cause one, need some new school hubs!!

what came as shiney shiney, the prolites are black, but could be stripped.

I know, but they have none left, I would have had some to put in my white 48h 7x's but, as usual, i'm too late!!

through the mid era many racers still used the suzue/suntour hubs from the olden school,
nicely made, strong light weight hubs,

profile made an ss 36 hub set,

shimano made their dx cassette hubs,

g-sport made the "dirt" hubs in 36,

webco made gorgeous female thread hubs,

tnt made and still make some very nice 36h's, the derringer and peacemaker i think they called them,

any of those would make a nice pair of wheels.

the bfr's were good rims, fook ugly but strong and not overly heavy, i still run one on the back of my bike tbh,

build them into a pair of prolites et al and i'd turn my nose up, put a pair of suzue's in there and you've got a credible wheel set,

Schwinn did some very nice hubs in the 90's, my favourites are the Six Shooter hubs that I had on my Hawk..
