love this pic, just because of the ramp :D Every weekend we'd nick loads of materials off the building site, only to find it all gone again monday after school :'(

Wicked! Love the toe toucher kickturn.
Here is me kickturning at the bowls near to Yate Rocks, back in 2003

Oh well, maybe it was just me & the Ruler who did pivots :-\
-
Kickturns mate!
-
What a coincidence... I've scanned some in of me from Rom '84. I'll post em up tomorrow sometime.
-
Kickturns mate!

Here's a few of me from my Ammaco days. Rom '84. The last shot is a rampstall, I'm just hopping back in. I would have fakied out to a slider or a 540 revert probably.
Please note the complete lack of colour on my bike. And who says it's just new school bikes that are all black....

Wicked pics... :coolsmiley:
Great to see these... when BMX was just MASSIVE. :daumenhoch:
In pic two.... the guy in the rollerboots... he just looks SOOOOO wrong... :-X
-
Thats Ted. Nice fella, him and his rollerboot mates used to maraud around the town centre most evenings where me and my mates would be praqctising no handed cowboys and making ramps out of the market stall boards....

About 85, seem to have run out of ramp
-
Great pics all, Coasters were king back then,
Rob, I remember you being super smooth, did you used to do the little hop at the end of the turn?
Stumpy
-
Ed, that pre DP one.......is that your sister? ???
;)
no its not my sister... I got my D and O mixed up... should have read pre OP :daumenhoch:
-
Great pic's, so I was the only person calling um pivots then :P
Love the pic's Stumpy, all proper. Your no hander puts mine to shame, particularly like the kid in the background on the 1st pic, exaggerating how high he's getting
Rob, all yours look great, again proper 80's style. The fat skater really steals the show though :-X, how many bikes are there, every kid must of had one.Ed, that pre DP one.......is that your sister? ???
;)
:LolLolLolLol:

It saddens me to have to tell you all that the skater, Ted Eden - my oldest friend - died back in 2001.
Ruler - Yes mate. For the most part round here, racers ran spokes and freestylers ran coaster Zs or Tuffs.
ukoldschool - I was one of those skaters in Romford town at night. I've skated since I was 13 and when I retired from riding (shortly after these photos actually) I went on to play street hockey in the Central London League for a few years. Street skating in London and Romford, rollerdiscos & hockey at the weekends was my life for a good while.
Stumpy - No hops for me brother!! Just the occasional one to get a 540 revert all the way round, but that's it.
-
:wtf: rob that's a fookin wig
-
Sorry to hear about Ted. He was a nice bloke (think he lived near the park in the posh bit from memory?). He used to bring his old deck - a very fooked up Alan Gelfand with the nastiest pizza tape I ever saw and massive powell cubics to romford some evenings and we used to borrow it off him to mess about on (we skated and bmx'd back then). My lasting memory of Ted would be rolling through Romford on his skates with a big box on his shoulder blasting out a tune which I can remember in my head but have no idea what it was called. Rob, you werent the guy that used to drive a yellow escort van were you?
-
Here's one of me at a village demo back in 83? on my spray painted halfords turbo enjoy :LolLolLolLol:

Yeah, the family are still in that house in Gidea Park. Ted moved out to Laindon in the early 90s and that was his downfall sadly, managed to surround himself in scumbags.
I didn't have a yellow van back then, I was driving either a green cavalier coupe or a red cavalier saloon - you know, the old rear wheel drive ones. Ted had a gold MK4 Cortina and a couple of RS2000s.
We had a mutual friend called Kev (dark hair, big nose) who drove a yellow van. A Marina van from memory. He wasn't much of a skater though but you might have seen him hanging out with us around Romford.
-
The bloke im thinking of with the yellow van was tall, blonde and had a flat top... Seem to remember we called him actionman as he was always in green gear ;) pretty sure he was one of the rollerbooters but could be mistaken. I can spot peerless in the background in one of the shots above too, in his usual sideways stance :)
Off topic.... Teds old deck inspired me to buy this many years later when I got into skateboard collecting:
-
That's actually Robbie Cook in the background skating sidesurf. Universally known as Gummidge back then.
I was taller in those days, before several spine compression took their toll haha..., but never dressed in green and didn't get a flat top until the late 80s lol.....
-
I had a flat top (and tramlines) for years, until I started riding motorbikes. Then it was helmet hair.
Loving these kickturn pics though! Except the ones on pegs ;)
-
Could pull a 540 kickturn on my MK1 Pro burner....can just about pull a 360 now on a good day...love kickturns proper old school stuntage :coolsmiley:

Working on that - dumped my front brake now and put the rear on the other side so theres a chance yo >:D
-
Some great pictures there :4_17_5: Nice one
-
anyway pedal kickturns were for those with a coaster if you wanted to bust any styles.
for those without a coaster it was pegs :daumenhoch:
-
Statements like that remind me just how young you are Ed.
There were pretty much no pegs around when my pictures were shot in 83/84.
I suppose you would be right a bit later on, 86/7/8 kinda time.
Whippersnapper....... I hate kids :knuppel2:

Sorry Dad  I wanted pegs as soon as I saw 'em in Action Bike demo'd by ... Chris Young maybe??? down at that weird track/obstacles place in London... did the whole 'weld nuts into bits of cut off chair leg' thing... >:D
-
Yeah. Arguably, he was the first rider to run them over here. Home made by his dad I think. Andy 58delray would know.
We were sessioning his 1/4 pipe one weekend and he aired out and drifted way across that little 6ft wide thing, and basically landing in the feeble grind position and rode it out on his wheel nut. I remember thinking then there's possibilities there.... That would have been 83 probably.

I was riding with some kids last night and they were doing lawnmowers. Sure, they were doing lawnmower fufanu's on some tricky bank/subs but its funny how tricks come back round. Even if they have a modern twist.
(picture googled to show the modern trick. Ive no clue who it is)
-
Lawnmower kickturn rules!
Needs an X though!
I think a pic is in order mate, its been awhile!id duly oblige here but ive just taken the wheels and brake pads off my bike as have sold them!! :( :(
-
I'm gonna nail one one @ my B-Day jam :) I'll work on the x-up next... need my brakes reversed though ???
I've been trying these too... just like Craig :smitten:

Dont bother reversing brakes dude, its probably easier to learn the lawnmower the other side.I used to run reverse brake levers bitd just for lawnmowers cos i did them on one side, but im used to front on right now so i just learnt the lawnmower on the other side so i can x the bars up.have you ever had a go at a step-thru lawnmower'they are just as sick! :daumenhoch:
