Just finished putting this together after some time off on me b-day this weekend.
Survivor Forest Green 1990 1" S&M Holmes with OG paint and decals. I know there's a few parts on it that aren't exactly era correct (ie tyres, peds and sprocket) but I'm going to be riding it, so can't justify lashing out on rubber I'm gonna wear down ;) Also the pics don't really do the green justice - it's a much deeper/richer colour.
Parts breakdown:
OG 1" S&M Mk1 Frame
S&M Pre Pitchforks
Beartrap 2 Headset
TNT Stem
GT Profile Cranks
Peregrine Super Pro Wheelset
GT Seat
TNT Seatclamp
Primo Seatpost
ACS BOA rear brake
Tech 77 Lever
Jive Grips
Can't remeber the bars, but they're mine from around 1990
Primo Dirt/V Monster combo (like what it used to be in the late 90's ;) )

like it :daumenhoch:
-
Just perfect, spot on. :daumenhoch:
Its funny how with the seat down, the bars in line with the forks (and the back wheel right forward), a 20 year old bike can look totally current. 8)
Id be a bit worried about the forks tho. They werent that great ???
-
Very nice
-
Oh very nice. These are a joy to ride. You are dead right about tyres, I have a 1" Holmes that i foolishly put nos rainbow comp3's on when I built it, the rear is now well worn :-[
The perfect bike for a bit of track/trail trundling. Enjoy.
-
Cheers fellas :daumenhoch:
Taking it out to the pump track later - maybe some trails at the weekend weather/missus/other peoples birthdays permitting ;)
Damn right about the forks - reckon I'll see how much they flex on the first few rides, be gutted, swap 'em for some Pitch's and hang these one's on me wall :)
-
That's ace... :4_17_5:
I want it...
Just sold some barely used rainbow label comp 3's would have been spot on for it... :daumenhoch:
-
fooking yes.
beyond "nice build" comments,
thats fooking sweet, i want it.
-
Cheers again fellas :daumenhoch:
Took it out to the pump track - rides really nice, geometry's gooooood although she's a little front light (not complaining, used to a heavier bike). No fork flex yet (trails at the weekend will be the clincher I reckon), shame about the Comp III's :(
-
Tidy build that.
-
Hope its not thread jacking but since you dont see many of them, here's a few pics of my mk1 Holmes.
Your's is way nicer tho. Mine has re-pop downtube & fork stickers, and its chrome :yahoo_silent:

-
Not a thread jack at all - lets see some more S&M 1"'s :daumenhoch:
That chrome one's very, very nice Alex, might even prefer it to the green - what are the hubs? DK?
-
DK hubs, Sun Rims, 40t flight ring on GT/profile cranks, DXs, Nippon, Slams and Redneck, (and comp3s).
I got it complete and all I changed was the stem, crank arms, tires and downtube stickers (and added a padset).

-
And this might be the only other one I know of. Its not mine tho. :'(

-
Another corker :daumenhoch:
So they were available in chrome, green, yellow n' red then? Just noticed you need a seat-tube sticker - will get a nice good piccy of the one on mine (with scale) for you if you need it :)
-
The Red one here is a respray but Im sure they were in those colours, and Black. I think it was just the mk1 Dirtbike that came in that really nice Blue.
Thanks for the offer but Ive got the seat tube sticker. I have a few sets of original seat and headtube stickers I picked up at the time.
Ive also got a few sets of the downtube sticker now that I got more recently. The set on my frame were a bit of a guess and they are a bit big.

My mk2 Holmes, you've probably all seen it before
Now has S&M pedals and tanwall vmonsters, not as era correct but i want it to get used... :-\

-
Both of them fookin' nice :daumenhoch:
Might have to get one of those GT sprockets I reckon - loving the Murray seat stays :)
-
If we can get the mk2's out as well, here is my one. This is the only "nice" bike I have
(I still managed to chip loads of the paint when i built it :crazy2:)

-
i maintain silence on all S&M threads. Nice cranks Danny!!
-
Nice cranks Danny!!
:daumenhoch: The bars are on t'STA now as well - should see what I've got planned for the hubs/rim ;) I've got far too many pairs of GT/Profiles now......going to try my first 'not Profile' cranks out on another build since the early 90's....
Alex that Mk2's a belter - always been a fan of those decals.

The decals took me SOOO long to find, and I ended up with a bit of a story AND the Original transparency artwork!!!!

'Ello Brother
Just realised I have been viewing and admiring your Holmes for about a week now Danny and not yet commented.
Very nice indeed, the green really smacks of Mid School freshness.
all the Holmes's on this thread are fckn gorgeous too.
For me 'THE' Icon of the 90's era....
The other week I was riding mine down near the Magistrates Court in Nottm City Centre and a Chavvy looking youth that had just come out of the court walks past me and says ' fukkin' 'ell nice, oldskool S&M mate'.
We exchanged nods and he was on his way. Cool.

Cheers Lenny :daumenhoch: Yours is a corker n'all :)
Managed to egg a front HP-48 on the old Holmes the other weekend - bugger..... may have to go the LLP Flow Team way and re-build the egg out with some quality baco-the-foil :)
-

Nice one Betty, looks better with some "air miles" on her. Wait for the track dirt to dry, bang the bike on the floor a couple of times, clean the back wheel only, + go ride again! perfect.

Sorry Ben, i wanted to leave it but the mrs insisted i cleaned it... >:(
-
Sweet baby jesus Alex - they all yours? That is mid school pron right there :daumenhoch:
-
Niiiiiiiiice..... :buck2:
Desert-island bikes indeed.
My inch and an eighth Holmes build is coming along nicely. Nearly ready for paint. Got these welded on today. Pitchforks that came with frame are HEAVY, these have very similarly shaped dropouts, so i'm gonna paint them up and sticker them as pitch-fauxks. Need to drill a cable hole before painting tho.
-
Sweet baby jesus Alex - they all yours?
Yep. A few years ago I set out to get one of every 1" frame type. Almost there.
-
Holmes's from the Master
Soul-Points maximum.
What bars are on the middle one Brother? They look Massive?
Keep the Frost. L
-

Haha, thats brilliant. ;D :daumenhoch:
What bars are on the middle one Brother? They look Massive?
The bars on the Yellolmes are early Slams, or "Itson Slams". Same as the Bottom pair here (below a set of "Wide and low Slams" and "Dancing man Slams" at the top. Ive now put a pair of Itson Slams on the mk1 and a pair of wide-n-low's on the Yellolmes so they are time-line correct.

-
Ben, those lugs look well low.........liking the decal name though ;D :daumenhoch:
-
Ben, those lugs look well low
They are canti lugs, not U-brake lugs. 990 lugs dont have holes for the springs like canti brakes do :daumenhoch:
-
Yep, canti's bro. They were done using a jig i've used succesfully before. I've had the wheel in and the brakes on to check and it's all rosy.
-
cool :daumenhoch:
