they're all pretty much the same in that price range , the Eastern ones are ok , few quid more, £23 i think, but you can get em in different colors .
If you can find somewhere thats still selling em, the Diamondback packaged ones were only about £15, exactly the same as the redline set that's £30 :uglystupid2: , :daumenhoch:
i would recommend greasing the bearings though before you use one of the cheaper ones , the seal comes off real easy with a small flat screw driver , the stuff thats in em is shite like a clear silicone grease , i've had a few that went "clicky" after a couple of days cos they were effectively dry, bunged in some proper guey grease push the seal back on and they been fine since :daumenhoch:
one of the eastern ones below nice little bit of extra machining on the cups and covers

nice one Betty , :daumenhoch: those DB ones are a real bargain :daumenhoch: . Profile set :smitten: :smitten:
once you've got a US bb jack try to look after the large aluminium cups that fit in the frame , reason being is if you ever get a problem with the bearings and you need new ones you can just buy new bearings instead of a complete set , also you can go for a mid size bb which will fit the US cups, these tend to be a bit cheaper and you can get some nicer bearing covers for the mid ones, if that sort of thing thing floats your boat :LolLolLolLol:
this is one of the DB ones with the black stripped off and bearing cover off a mid bb :smitten:

so if i get the diamond back one, i can replace the bearrings if i want
and get an american b/b cover?
would it be a big job fitting a b/b cover?
i know pretty much nothing about bottom brakets :LolLolLolLol:
-
Jack if you need a set of covers I have a set you can have for a few quid to cover the post.
The Diamond back N set from Angepatten357 (I think) on ebay is identical to the Redline kit and half the price - he also does them for Spannish and other sized BB's if you need a different size for a NS bike.
-
sorry jack think i might have confused you a bit
the DB set has everything in it you kneed, as does the Eastern one you pointed out , get one of these complete sets first :daumenhoch: .
Then........the second post i put was just to show that once you have a complete set you can swap out just the bearing covers to give it the custom look , shure you'll want to do this on the Burner assumuing you want the bb for that :daumenhoch:
-
Just looked at the pics Jim - the silver bearing cups in the pic with the blue covers, is that one of the DB ones? If so, is it just a paint stripper and polishing mop job bud as the black looked like a plastic-coating almost :buck2:
-
just cheap black stuff Spen, i think it might be a chemical colour, not as hard as anno , so comes off real easy dipped em in caustic , you know how i like the old toxic fumes in the morning, literally dipped em in for about 2 seconds, but i do mix a mean caustic solution , :LolLolLolLol:, then 2 mins on the bufferoo as you say , new mid covers, job done, :daumenhoch: the thin one on the drive side is cut the same way too :smitten: not that you can see much of it , just satisfies the OCD :LolLolLolLol:
mmmmmmm........................ can imagine a few OS Stylers turning up with midd size bb bits on ;) ;) , its my idea i baggsy first one :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
-
Cheers Jim, I'll give it a shot then as I've already got a set of blue covers, just they look a bit cack in the black cups, so silver would be better.
Actually, I might strip them and spray them white - just got to try and get them back into the white frame without marking them......
Nah, strip them silver I think as I'll have no chance of not knocking all the paint back off :2funny:
-
white would look better spen i think, blend in with frame v nice :smitten: , got a home made press bro , could nip through with it if ya like , drop us a pm save snakeing young jacks thread any more :LolLolLolLol:

no probs pal , the regrease is just a recomendation , you don't have to do it if you don't want ,
here's one with the seal popped out, the black ring , your one may be a different color green probably ,small screwdriver on the outside edge will lift it out, just put in enough grease to be level with the raised bearing bit , the seal will push back in place by hand ,don't put to much grease in
